Broken Ice Packs, Sprinklers, and Having Fun, a Random and Happy Tuesday Post

It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus.  

The sprinklers were on when i arrived at Carl's yesterday, and that is seldom the case.  Carl was moving toward his sleep chair already but Mr. L was up eating breakfast as he often does before he lies back down.

When i told him the sprinklers were on, he joked, "We have those?  Oh, yeah.  I didn't set them, though, I wonder if the lawn people did."

They went off soon after, so i'm guessing whoever messed with them, it was intentional.  Probably the lawn people, who are very good and diligent.

Carl had done his best to get most of the laundry done, with mixed success.  He had some dirty clothes on hangers with the clean stuff because he hangs all of it up inside out.  Why?  Because it's inside out when he takes it off and it doesn't occur to him to change that.

When i dug the recyclables out of his garbage can -- which had a bag in it with one clip so it wasn't wadded at the bottom with the garbage on top of it, will wonders never cease --  as i got the recyclables and brought them out to the can, i lifted the can lid and heard a distinctive thump.

Hmmm, this out of his car, probably because he cleaned it and left it on top of the recycle can to dry, plus the stain remover not put away, um, he had another date and his mom made him try to clean the car a little, i was sure of it.

Getting into his fridge, i almost wished i hadn't.

He has a tendency to throw all his stuff in a grocery bag on the way out of work, both his purchases and his other stuff, and just shove it all in the fridge when he gets  home.  This time, i found water in a grocery bag with his jar of preserves and jar of peanut butter.

The culprit/water source.  He'd thrown the melted-by-the-time-he-left-work ice pack in the bag, and when the jars landed on top of it on the shelf, three of the little compartments popped open.

He also had this in the refrigerator.

Does he think that's enough to save?

Yes, Carl does.  I left it on the breakfast table and he used a spoon to scoop out the tiny bit left and enjoyed every smidge.  Simple man, simple pleasures.

Speaking of which, i asked how his weekend went, and he said, "Plans didn't work out..."

In talking to Ms. V after, she said, "He didn't get to go to the movies, it just didn't work out.  He kept saying, 'I never get to have any fun!'"

"But he did get to go to trivia night at church with Sarah, and I asked him, 'Didn't you have fun doing that?'"

So i was right, he did have a date, at trivia night.  I'm sure he had fun, and this weekend is his birthday and they have plans, so we don't need to feel too sorry for him.

Once he was dressed, Carl headed to the breakfast table wearing his hat and his work vest.

Why do you have those on? i asked.

"Trying to be ready early," he said.

The vest, maybe, i told him, but ditch the hat, you can't get your apron on over it and you need to protect your clothes while you eat.

He realized i was right and handed me his hat.

While he was eating, i was packing his lunch and his ice vest and he was doing what he generally does, scrolling on his pad.

"Arsenic!" he suddenly said.

I looked at him, and he said, "Arsenic, in apple juice, how would it get there?"

Walking over, i saw he was reading about a recall of apple juice because of arsenic.  

I have no clue how such a thing could happen, i told him, but it's better to be eating the whole fruit anyway.

Right before he left, he said, "Pray for me.  Blood test Thursday," and with that he was gone, the first time.  He came in two more times, both of them to get something from the kitchen.

He's probably getting his blood sugar checked again, as he's supposed to be watching his sugar since he is now insulin resistant.  All i can say is, good luck with that.  He has cake in his refrigerator as i write this.
