Inevitable, a Random and Happy Tuesday Post

It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus.  

Yesterday, Carl was supposed to return to work after being home sick with a cold and an ear infection.

Best laid plans and all that.

It started pretty well, with him dressed and eating breakfast when i arrived.  As i got all of his clothes together for the washer, i was digging out all of the detritus that ends up in his pockets.

Carl likes Tums, the fruit flavored ones.  He nibbles them, then stuffs the other half or third in his pocket for later.  One fell out on the floor, and before i could stop him, he picked it up, rinsed it at the sink and popped it in his mouth.

When i tell you he had a grin on his face, i mean it.  He looked just like #1 Son when he was 9 months old and ate his first bug before i could stop him.  That little kid "I ate it" grin is a sight to behold, even when it's on a 40-year-old special needs man/child.

Eventually he left for work, and i thought i'd be able to get through the rest of the cleaning unmolested.  Think again.

When you go back to work after having been out for an illness, you have to answer a bunch of health questions before they will let you clock in.

Carl doesn't do questions well.  Part of his special needs is that he has almost zero executive function and deciding how to answer a question is hard for him.

One question was about whether he'd had chills in the previous 24 hours.  He'd had a chill the day before.  Now granted, it was because it was fifty-some degrees outside and he went out without his shoes on to get something from the car, but to Carl, a chill is a chill and he said yes and was sent home.

Thus he had no choice but to eat again, brush his teeth again, and change back into his jammies so he could take a snooze.  Because of course, if you are going to sleep, you have no choice but to put on sleep clothes, at least, if you are Carl.

One good thing, i did salvage what he wore for work and folded it, setting out where he would be able to wear it to work today.  How much you want to bet that doesn't happen?  Don't take that bet, because he will start to put it on, get distracted, and then go get other clothes, i promise.

 This might be something i posted before, but if so, it's been a while and it made me laugh, so i hope it makes you laugh, too.

This week the theme is New Lease.                        

"We need a new lease," he heard her mutter.

It was much to his surprise.

She'd just come in, fed the dog and sat down,

So he started to look with new eyes.

The place had become a bit shabby,

They'd lived there a bit of a while,

And though the place wasn't awful,

It was certainly out of style.

He began to look at lease listings,

And even at homes for sale,

Maybe they'd find a rent-to-own,

A new nest that wasn't so stale.

As they talked over really moving,

They looked 'round at all of their stuff,

The thought of moving each scrap, well,

That idea was really rough.

That got them started to looking

At items they could be purging,

If it's gone, we don't have to move it,

Was what he kept on urging.

They finally found a wonderful

Place to be their nest,

When they finally got settled,

They knew it had been for the best.

"I'm really glad I heard you that day,

When you said we need a new lease.

Even the dog has a yard of his own,

We can settle here in peace."

She looked at him and her eyes grew wide,

And then she started to laugh.

"I was wondering what got into you,

Now I see it was all a gaffe!

Not that I'm sad for how it turned out,

It's the best place we've lived since we wed,

But I'd just come in from walking the dog,

And 'We need a new leash,' is what I said!"
