A to Z and Tuesday Coffee Chat: Prepare

Rory Bore at Ink Interrupted hosts the Tuesday Coffee Chat, and this week she talks about, Spring Clean!  What do you do to prepare for the new season?

Since the swamps don't have a harsh winter, our preparations don't include things like taking snow chains or snow tires off of vehicles or trading out sleds for bicycles.

We use the grill year 'round if we want, since we don't have to dig it out of the snow.

Our preparations are more about helping the aquatic club get the pool ready, and opening the windows a lot to cool the house before we have to turn on the A/C.

Also getting ready for the hot season, which will be here before you know it.

Then there's hurricane season preparation.  Make sure you have water and batteries for the flashlights and radio and a non-electric can opener and canned food.

The idea of a big spring clean out here, when our winters are such pussycats compared to those in other areas, is a bit of overkill.

We have to clean the house after the summer, once the kids are done tracking in all the mud and grass and everything else they track in all through the season.  That means a good, big clean out just before the holidays.

None of my clients have mentioned spring cleaning, either.  They seem content with the usual stuff, and an occasional special project for a problem area.

Several years ago, i heard a person say that since we don't shut up our houses and heat them with stoves that leave a layer of grime on everything all winter, we don't need to spring clean.  That sounds like a good reason to me.

  1. Sounds like a good reason indeed. Warm greetings!

  2. No spring cleaning - bliss! Year round grilling - more bliss :)

  3. Yes, our fireplace does leave a tiny bit of ash dust everywhere. Also the different angles of the sun show me new areas that I missed cleaning. Since I can get outside I can hose the windows with cleanser and of course there is all the weeding, weeding, weeding and planting, planting, planting in the spring.

  4. I love how you put it in Lousiana, but it's even better in Florida. My husband has been swimming in our unheated pool since December. Well, he is a New Hampshire polar bear type.

  5. I need a good excuse to avoid spring cleaning, other than I'm lazy.

  6. Oh, I would like to live down there. I really would. Spring cleaning here is a lot of yard work. We have to uncover flowers, rake, and get everything ready to grow!

  7. I love the reason not to spring clean, but we both know that cleaning is something that is done year around and even more right before the holidays. I'm getting older and it's getting to be more of a challenge.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  8. That makes sense about spring cleaning to me. I do like to clean screens and windows. And wash out the garage after a winter of road dirt.

  9. It is spring cleaning to just open all the windows and let in some fresh air.

  10. Spring cleaning... For me it's just a good excuse to find out how much 'stuff' fell down/was stuck in/put in and forgotten, in our big closet! We even found a map and three pillows this year. It was also made more interesting with a certain feline that nearly became part of the montage...

  12. Spring cleaning? I need full-blast cleaning from one end to the other! There never seems to be enough time or energy to keep it done, and I need joints that bend better too! SIGH

  13. Winter definitely is hard on a home. There seems to be annual repair work, as well as the clean. But I think I won't complain too much since I don't have to worry about hurricanes or tornadoes!!

  14. While we don't have harsh winters here in the PNW in the grand scheme of things, the rain and wind storms that do occur tend to strew small branches, twigs and massive amounts of pine needles on everything, so spring clean up is a must. We do, however, have to do the same as you (and for the same reasons) after the summer months - so I'll generally do a big fall clean, too. Well, or procrastinate and wait until just before Thanksgiving to make sure everything is clean before company comes over. ;)
