"Who are all these people in the pictures, mommy?"
"These are our relatives, parents, grandparents, cousins, and so on, we have a section of an album dedicated to each branch of the family.
"Here we have my mother's side of the family, the Penderwartons, who trace ancestors back to the Mayflower, and on these pages are the relatives on my father's side, the Orgilvys, who were related to one of the early kings, I can't remember which right now.
"This album has most of your father's relatives, his mother's family were the Abernathys and his father was a Sticklebee, just like you are."
"Who's over here?"
"Oh, those are your father's second cousins twice removed, the Smiths, you'll know them easily because they'll be the ones dancing the Time Warp at family weddings and we don't talk about them much."

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
Me and my best friend are going away,
please don't worry, though, it's just for the day.
I'll skip stones, he'll find acorns, we'll eat my picnic lunch,
spending the day just wandering is fun, a whole bunch!

Love your poem. It sounds like a truly wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteLovely fences. I like metal ones.
ReplyDeleteGot bless.
Love your story and the fences! I hadn't thought of that before, I've taken quite a few photos of fences over the years, I ought to put them together!
ReplyDeleteReally love your poem from the photo prompt. Reminds me of my kids, which is apt, because one of them is named after Dylan Thomas!
I guess we all have Smiths in our families, Mimi!
ReplyDeleteI like the picture of the boy and his pig, and your poem fits perfectly!
ReplyDeleteLots of little Halloween fences are popping up this season. We love photos and Mom is always asking Gramma about who is in all the photos so she knows.
ReplyDeleteLove your six and the ending made me laugh out loud. We all have those family members.
ReplyDeleteAw on the poem and I'm with you on the cooler weather. The heater is on this morning.
Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, my friend. Big hug. ♥
I love the poem, " just for the day. Have a wonderful day Mimi.
ReplyDeleteCruisin Paul
I had to look up the Time Warp dance and then wished I hadn't lol. Great story of passing down to the younger generation a knowledge of their roots, so important. Ran my eye over the birthday list: Dylan Thomas today! One of my very favorites. ❤️
ReplyDeleteFive brilliant sentences followed by a cracker of a sixth! I remember as a child just wandering off for the day. It's not something kids can do today.
ReplyDeletelove, love, love the poem and picture of the boy w the pig
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely photo for your poem! And your fence photos are fun! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteIt's just a jump to the left.
ReplyDeletelol
hey, not the worst earworm to have, right?

That was a fun story and a good poem too and we're thankful for cooler temps too. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI love the cooler weather too. Great poem and story. My niece has Mayflower relatives on her dad's side of the family. XO
ReplyDeleteA whole separate album for each branch of the family? I don't even have photos, much less albums to put them in and I barely know anyone outside my own nucleus. Ancestors and families in other countries are completely lost to me. it's a lovely idea though.
ReplyDeleteYour 6 sentance story ROCKS! Love the fences, and the poem (it really went with the picture) and your thankfuls. Keep being awesome.
ReplyDeleteThere's always one branch of the family that's a little twisted. Though the Rock Horror Picture Show is supposed to be a classic, I just don't get it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your take on "Branch", having recently read up on my ancestry. Well done. I appreciated the humor at the end.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has 'Smiths' on their family tree, i think. Good story, Mimi.
ReplyDeleteAn adorable poem.....I just love this photo!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Pam and Teddy too
