It's Always a Great Day for Thankful Things, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

 ***********************************

Happy Thankful Day!  It's always a joy to stop and count blessings in the form of things for which i am thankful.

This past Saturday was rather wearying, but still a good day.  Not only am i thankful i got to see Grandma and Grandpa and clean and do shopping, i got the news from Ms. G that my extra volunteer work on Wednesdays will continue, at least for a couple of weeks.  It's a job that's growing on me.

Sunday was beautiful and Becca didn't fall asleep during the service as she has done for the past couple of weeks.

Also on Sunday, Sweetie informed me that Lunceford the Land Yacht was running rough and the A/C had quit working.  He was taking it in just to be looked at on Monday morning when i got a call from #2 Son.

"Mom, I have the flu, and my girlfriend can't bring me anything until she gets off work and school at 6 this evening, and I've got a fever and I'm dehydrated, could you find a way to get me some Gatorade?"

A quick call to Sweetie and he ran the errand, rescheduling Lunceford to Tuesday.  I'm thankful he's one who loves to run such errands and he gets them done efficiently.  #2 Son had enough Gatorade for himself and his girlfriend when she, naturally, came down with the same thing.

Ms. JAI is out of town and asked me to run by her house about halfway through her time away and check up on things.  I'm thankful i was able to do that, and while there i  flushed and cleaned the toilets, leaving some cleanser in them so they wouldn't get stinky.  There were a couple of other items i was thankful to be able to tidy up so she's not find a nasty mess when she gets home.

Monday afternoon, a call from Ms. D, my Tuesday lady.  "Could you bring your husband with you tomorrow?  I need the batteries changed in my smoke alarms."

Once again, I'm thankful he's flexible, and so are Kevin and Lenny at the shop.  We got Ms. D set up with new batteries in both smoke alarms, and i got the housework done she wanted done, and she and Sweetie sat and talked each other's ears off, for which they are thankful as they both love long chats.

On Wednesday, #1 Son brought Red-Headed Alec over for a visit before they went to a concert together.  He no longer has a car (he lost his job and now has a new one where he can walk to work) and hasn't been able to come by for a while.  It was a joy to see him.

That's also the day we got news about Lunceford.  The A/C is gone, but we're thankful the weather is getting much cooler and we can put that off until the spring.

The dirty spark plugs and gummed up fuel injector were another matter, as well as a nice crack in a plastic part of the manifold that made it necessary to replace that whole part.

We're thankful we could use my car for both of us on Thursday when we went together to do Ms. SE's house, and thankful the vehicle was done by Thursday afternoon.

Do i have to repeat that i'm thankful they take payments?  Nah, i didn't think so, but more than that, when they asked why i hadn't come to get my wiper blades replaced like i'd told them i'd be doing, i told them it would be a few weeks now before i could afford it.

They replaced the wiper blades at no charge.

The cat shelter was a mildly busy place Friday and i was thankful to learn of some new plans in the works for the next couple of years.  Stay tuned, it could get fun (as in, moving fun!).

Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Dyanne and her co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.

Today is:

Abu Simbel Festival -- Ancient Egyptian Calendar (along with Feb. 22, the day when the sunlight fell perfectly on the statues of Ramses, Ra, and Amun at the temple complex)

Caps Lock Day -- celebrating life in screaming CAPITALS (i'd include a link to the promo site, but it's rather annoying)

Clean Up the Earth Day -- begun because having only one Earth Day a year doesn't give enough emphasis to the amount of work that needs to be done

Color Day -- a day to consider how color affects your life, health, and world

Eat a Pretzel Day -- unclaimed sponsorship; does anyone else suspect that pretzel makers know how to spread stuff around the internet, too?

Gormánuðr -- Old Icelandic Calendar (beginning of "Innards Month," after all the animals have been butchered and fresh innards figure predominantly in the menu, as the rest of the meat has been preserved for winter)

International Stuttering Awareness Day -- information here

Jidai Matsuri -- Kyoto, Japan (Festival of the Eras or Festival of the Ages)

Make A Difference Day -- US (Whoopie Goldberg once said that if every American would donate 5 volunteer hours a week, it would be the equivalent of several million full time jobs; whether or not it's strictly accurate, volunteering is a great thing to do no matter where you live.  This day is no longer sponsored, but if you are looking for volunteer opportunities in your area, go here.)

National Knee Day -- take care of your knees, and they will take care of you!

National Nut Day -- UK & US (also now celebrated around the world) (launched by Liberation Foods CIC http://www.chooseliberation.com/, a fair trade nut company, urging us to celebrate fairly traded nuts and swap out a nut based burger for a meat based meal, at least for today, or grab a handful of nutritious almonds or walnuts or your own favorite mix; if you don't like nuts, you can just choose to go be one, instead www.nationalnutday.com)

Seeking of King Look Under Your Mattress -- Fairy Calendar

Smart is Cool Day -- and i don't know who started this one, but i'd say someone tired of being made fun of for being a bookworm

  8. Wonderful thankful list. I wish I lived near you so I could give you our surplus Gatorade, My hubby bought a lot of it when he had to prepare for a colonoscopy and now he never wants to see it again. :)

  9. That was nice of your mechanic to change your wiper blades free of charge. I'm sorry Lunceford had other issues, though.

  10. Kevin and Lenny are pretty awesome! We had our version of Lunceford with a couple different cars and had to take them to John and
Dave, our Kevin and Lenny. One time my husband took one of them in and said there was something hanging down underneath the car, and they said there's always something hanging down from our cars!

  11. "This past Saturday was rather wearying..."
I trust you will accept the level of compliment inherent in my reaction on reading this line... a mashup of the Twelve Labors (Greek myth) and an unprompted, 'No way!'
... moving as in, moving the shelter from one location to another...as in (imagery overload of 50 or 60 cats in cages (for some unknown reason) stacked on the roof of the cars of volunteers...
    lol
(excellent on the time for the ac...being able to wait, rarely are mechanical things so considerate)
