Ms. G does not suffer fools gladly and has her own set of terms of engagement with people, especially people who answer phones at offices and will not at once put her through to the person she wishes to talk to this very moment, her terms being to attempt to cut them off at the pass as soon and firmly as possible.
Yesterday, she called her specialist physician's office to see if there was an appointment available with him or any other doctor in the office with that specialty because of a situation she felt was urgent, but not Emergency Room urgent.
She asked to speak to her doctor's nurse and the receptionist made the mistake of asking her for more details about why she was calling.
Ms. G responded with, "I am not calling to triage my situation with a receptionist who has no medical training, I want to speak to the nurse about a situation and see if my doctor has any way to see me today, as I feel the situation is urgent and I am not a patient who calls in and asks to be seen spur-of-the-moment often and for no reason."
The receptionist handed her off to another higher up receptionist, in whom Ms. G met her match as this receptionist agreed to give her the first appointment available with any of those specialists but only if she would state why she needed said appointment.
Ms. G gave in and told her as little as she could get away with while still emphasizing the urgency of the situation and the appointment was set, and Ms. G hung up the phone glowering and muttering, "it's not their job to ask my whole medical history," and other things which shall not be repeated on this blog.

ReplyDeleteMs. G certainly got the runaround there. That wooden fence looks like it's been there for a very very long time. And the one with all the ivy is so pretty.
ReplyDeletePhone calls have gotten complicated. She should be happy she at least got a human, some places it is just a huge circle of computer jibber jabber and our Mom gets really mad! It is so much quicker most of the time to just talk to a human.

Mrs G doesn't understand the receptionists needs, if they know what she is coming in for they can book the appropriate amount of time and a lot of patient details are already on their computers when making such bookings anyway.
