Mimi had done all the baking and cooking she’d needed to do to assist Tom ahead of the poetry slam, determined to enjoy it to the fullest.
Her muse had been mostly absent lately because of everything going on, but then she remembered something. A poem called an epulaeryu, it is supposed to be about food, doesn’t have to rhyme, follows a syllabic pattern of 7/5/7/5/5/3/1, and the last word is how you feel about the food and has an exclamation point, making it really only one sentence.
Thinking back to the snack she had earlier, she went to work and came up with something to share, silly bit of nonsense that it was.
my thumb presses into the
yellow and green skin
i peel it back and breathe deep
smile at the sweet scent
savor the first bite
banana
joy!
In spite of a week which had been quite a week, she was happy to contribute more than just her presence to the evening.
Linking up with Denise at Girlie On The Edge Blog for the Six Sentence Cafe and Bistro Poetry Slam, and the cue is Word.
