It Was Soooo Hot! A Random and Happy Tuesday Post

Yes, it's hot here in the swamps.  Usually that doesn't bother me too much.

Cold is very painful for me, and while i don't like being too hot, i don't normally suffer from the heat like many people.  Usually i tolerate it pretty well.

Then came this past Sunday at the homeless ministry.

Most of the time, Pastor M makes some of the men put up the pop-up tent/gazebo type thing in the area where we are assembling food bags to give away.  This past Sunday, for some reason, he did not.  It just sat, not too far from the tables, and wasn't used.

We didn't start out with too many helpers, so those of us who were there needed to hustle, and hustle we did.  After about an hour, i was dizzy and i was done.  Unsure of my footing, i slunk over to a shady spot and sat down to finish the job i was doing.  A few ice cubes on the back of my neck and a few more down my shirt weren't helping, and i knew i had to do something drastic.

Those "ade" drinks may be full of heaven-knows-what, and most of the time i wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole, but the only way i didn't pass out and managed to drive back to the church was by going ahead and drinking one.

Somehow i don't think one is going to hurt me.

Next time, i am going to get some of the ladies and we are going to set up that pop-up, and i'm going to pre-hydrate.  My lesson has been learned.

Yesterday was cold at the church for the homeless, but we still had about 15 children in Sunday school.  Because Epiphany is this week, that was the theme of the lesson.

We had the children color crowns.

Brother and Sister, in matching coats, had to sit next to each other.

The designs were as unique as the children.

Fancy and colorful!

One little girl, when i tried to fit the crown on her after she was done coloring, said, "But aren't these only for kings?"

I could hear the pastor, on the other side of the parking lot, preaching about how people needed to speak only positive things over their children, tell their children they were not going to be statistics, tell their children that they will succeed in life and stay in school and stay out of jail.

Seizing the moment, i told the little girl, You are a child of G-d, and that means you are a child of the King, so you are royalty! and i put the crown on her head.

Oh, how i pray she takes that lesson in and becomes so much more than another statistic from the poor side of town.
