Yesterday, Becca, Mr. Cal the dog and i went to feed the turtles at the bridge, but the turtles were not out as it was so cold.  We met the geese and a duck instead.

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border.   Charlotte/Mother Owl always participates, too.  This week the theme is Showtime.                    

Her momma gave her thirty-five cents

For her Saturday spending cash.

No school today, her chores were done,

It was time for her weekly bash!

The bus would cost a dime one way,

A transfer would bring her home,

The rest would be spent at the best place

Where she was allowed to roam.

Ten cents bought her a ticket,

A nickel each for the soda pop,

The popcorn and the pickle,

And in the seat she'd plop.

The afternoon at the picture show

Was truly a delight.

Cartoons and a newsreel,

Then Buck Rogers the bad guys did fight.

Finally the featured movie,

And sometimes even two!

Then taking the bus on back to home

Where supper was waiting for you.

Oh, those were the fun days,

Grandma does remember well,

When an afternoon at the movies

Was really considered swell.

(Yes, when Grandma got old enough to take the city bus by herself, this was her favorite way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  Those were the days.)

1. The last movie i saw at the theater was Prince Caspian, and i only went to see that because the church we were attending at the time rented out the theater for a Sunday morning and that was our church service.  The last one before that was when that church did the same thing for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.  Prior to those two, it was Little Big League back in 1994.  No, i don't go to movies, just as i don't watch TV.  Yes, i'm weird, it's okay, they know me on my planet.

2. The title of my autobiography would be For This I Went To College?

3. I would love to learn another language, and learn it very fluently.  My bits of Spanish are mediocre at best, and i don't seem to make much progress at it.

4. I am glad that i learned to read, because reading is my favorite pastime, and if i couldn't read, i couldn't have online friends, either.

Summer Days: A Six Sentence Story

Pulling up to the red light with brakes squealing, she threw the car into park and everyone spilled out in a red light fire drill.

As they ran around the car and hopped into different seats, she popped the trunk and grabbed her CD box, getting back to her own place just in time for the light to turn green.  The CD box had landed in the shotgun seat where she had thrown it in her haste to get the car moving again, and so her cousin picked out the next CD to put in the player.

When their favorite song came up, they rolled the windows down, cranked the music louder, and sang along, neither noticing nor caring what they looked or sounded like.  Arriving at the movie theater, they fairly danced across the parking lot, anticipating popcorn and the latest release, knowing that afterward they would all spend the night at one of their houses, staying up to talk and eat and laugh until dawn.

Four high school teens, let loose from school for the summer, were going to make the most of their time.
