We are so thankful to get to Thankful Day!
On Tuesday evening, Ms. G called to say she had 3 emergencies come up within the previous half hour, and she was going to have to deal with all of them the next morning, so she cancelled my cleaning visit.
Yes, that was a thankful thing. If you know me by now, you know where this is going.
Some time early the next morning, the storm hit. Most of our area just got rain. We got rain, straight line winds, and a probable tornado (the first one).
The lock on the front door had been changed and we'd set up the extra barricade against it before bed (that door tends to blow open during storms if not locked and barricaded), and i am thankful for both, it took both to keep the door shut.
When the electricity went off and our generator did not come on, i am thankful we both had charged our phones the night before and had plenty of battery for flashlights.
When the wind blew the room unit A/C into the room through the window, i am thankful we were both nearby to wrestle it back into place and clean the rain and debris that had blown in.
We had a whole roll of Gorilla Tape, and i am thankful because it took most of it to tape things back so as to hold it all until we could get it seen to properly.
When several tree branches came down from our neighbors trees, we are thankful none of them hit the house.
When the neighbor's front yard tree toppled, we are thankful it went toward the street and not their house or ours.
On the way back from our cat shelter duties (it was thankfully in an area that was spared the worst of the storms), i am thankful i was able to stop and talk to some of the linemen and let them know that the lines behind our house were twisted and the pole still upright but slightly askew, so they could check it and straighten it.
On the way to NOLA to return the loaner car we'd been given (you mean i didn't tell you that while we were on vacation, my car was in the shop for a couple of minor things and they got the wrong parts in and didn't finish with it by the time we got back, so we had a loaner?), thankfully we got early warning about the wrecks on the interstate and were able to take the local highway and hook back up to the interstate further up the road.
We were very thankful to get to NOLA in one piece, and then back again., and that the part of town where the dealership is was not flooded.
On the way back, we got the weather alert about the second tornado in our area, more trees down, more damage, but nothing worse on our street. We are thankful several people called to check on us when they got the alerts, too, and they were thankful to hear we were not even in the area at the time.
Everyone is thankful for ice to stuff into fridges and freezers to preserve stuff, as the power was out for about 14 hours.
We are extremely thankful to the linemen who worked so hard and got power restored, even with the second round of damage.
Handyman Mike, thankfully, was able to come the next morning and put the A/C unit back in properly.
Between all of that and some 11 hour workdays, i am very, very thankful that all of you are being patient with me, i may never catch up with all the blogs i've missed, but please know it was not for lack of trying.
Today, i'm heading to NOLA to clean Grandma and Grandpa's house, i am thankful they are also in a part of NOLA that did not flood when all of this happened.
