Annual PSA

It's a couple of months later than usual, because i've had to change the timing on when i go in for my physical.  Also, i was out of town during my usual time frame, so we decided to move it all back a bit.

Still, i'm here with my annual reminder.  Yesterday, before having blood drawn for my thyroid check, taking #1 Son's car to the shop, and going to work from 8:30am until almost midnight, i took the twins in for their glamor shots.

Ladies, the actual time for the exam took less than 20 minutes out of my very busy day.  You can't say you don't have time for a mammogram or any other annual test you need because of the time.  You can make time.  The time you make to fit it in might save your life, even if it has to be sandwiched between other appointments.

Gentlemen who may be reading, you have females in your life you care about, so remind them.  While you are at it, encourage them by scheduling your own screenings, for whatever your doctor thinks you need screened.

Most, if not all, people who are reading this live in a part of the world that has unprecedented and fabulous access to great health care.  Don't let that go to waste.  Call and schedule your exams, whatever they may be.

As i told the kids when they were younger, you will thank me someday for telling you this.

  2. How did you get so wise. Hubby just said the other day that it was time for him to schedule his annual exam. I think mine is in February.

  3. It is good to have the tests done at a time and place that's convenient. And I never stop being grateful that we live in a time and place where we can get modern medicine. I can't even think of what life must have been without it - or modern dentistry come to that.

  4. Yes, annual checkups are really important. 5 years ago this month I was diagnosed with breast cancer because of the mammogram I had the month before. I do a self exam, but never felt anything. If you can't afford it, contact your local health services, because there are programs that charge you based on what your income. Please.

  6. This is such a great reminder!! and yes, it is absolutely worth the time because it can save your life!! Personally, I have not had one yet - -although I do check on my own all the time and at my annual check up; but now that I am over 40, I have asked my doctor if it should be an annual thing now. I have no history of cancer at all in my family, so she has said 45 is probably early enough. But I don't know.. I may have to insist because it is so important.

  7. Good reminder. I did get my mammogram done this year, but I'm putting off my visit to the dentist. I know it won't be fun. :-)

  9. I don't need the reminder, I have my checks but thanks on behalf of those who do. I despair of a relative who thinks he doesn't need a regular physical because he works out and is very fit. I hope someone can get through to him.
