It Doesn't Look Empty to Me (Wordless Wednesday) and Words for Wednesday

***********************************

Linking up with Wordless Wednesday, Keith, Catsynth, and Sandee at Comedy Plus.

***********************************

Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being posted by Elephant’s Child and are being provided by David M. Gascoigne

This week's prompts are:

  • Villain
  • Visit
  • Bone
  • Stork
  • Memory

And/or

  • Imprinted
  • Human
  • Kink
  • Spring
  • Faithful

Charlotte (MotherOwl)  has selected Pretty Flower Pink as the colour of the month.

Have fun.

There's really no VILLAIN in this story, because nature isn't a bad guy, it's just nature, how things happen.

The STORK isn't a bad guy, either, I have no BONE to pick with him about what he did, he was just hungry and big hungry birds sometimes manage to catch a mouse.  Sometimes it's even a mother mouse.

It's not often I VISIT that part of the bogs, either, but I happened to be there, for it was SPRING and there were some flowers in my favorite Pretty Flower Pink color growing around there and I went to pick them.

That's where I saw the stork dart after something, heard a squeal, and when the bird had taken its prize and gone I walked nearby after more flowers.  It was a wonder I saw them, two baby nestling mice in a tiny hollow not far from where the mama was caught and I almost stepped on them by accident.

That threw a KINK in my plans for the day.  It shouldn't have, I know, it makes me both soft hearted and soft headed, but the poor mama.  Anyway, I knew they were just little mice, I didn't have to worry if they IMPRINTED on a HUMAN, and they'd have no MEMORY of their mama once they grew up.

"Don't worry, little guys, I'll do my best for you," I told them, and FAITHFUL to my promise I brought them home, found a dropper and made an ersatz formula from instructions I found online, and when they got big enough to be scrabbling around in the shoebox I'd put them in, went to a pet store and bought them a veritable mouse castle of cages with tunnels, and the toys and a wheel and all the stuff you do for pet mice which I did for a pet hamster once and it bit me.

They never bit me, though, and lived happily a couple of years (mice don't live that long) and they must have either been two brothers or two sisters because there were never any babies, thank goodness.

I kind of miss them, but not enough to go get more mice.
