The Funny, The Serious, and The Odd, a Ten Things of Thankful Post

***********************************

Getting to Thankful Day each week makes me smile, especially when so many good things have happened.

Some of them were even funny, like when Uncle J (my brother, my children's uncle) asked me to help him with a project last Saturday at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

He brought me down to the guest bedroom and said, "I washed the sheets after Bryn stayed here last and I thought I'd get you to help me make the bed since it's easier with two people."  That's when he noticed the sheets were gone and i told him i didn't realize he'd washed them already and they were now in the dryer after their second washing.

We're thankful for a sense of humor and clean sheets, and then he said, "Oh, this means we don't have to wash them after the next guest, right?" with a laugh.

I'm also thankful the bed wasn't hard for me to make by myself as he was busy elsewhere when the sheets were finally ready, as i'm accustomed to it.

Our church only has one service on Memorial Day weekend (too many people out of town to need three), so it means a later start time.  Mr. Cal was very thankful for a longer walk with me and Becca, and also thankful he got to see all his usual puppy friends plus a couple of new ones.

When i had arrived at Becca's house and got her up, i noticed one of her retainers was in her bed but the other was nowhere to be found.  We're all thankful Ms. A finally spotted it, and Mr. Cal didn't get it (he loves to chew her retainers and they are expensive to replace).

Ms. D has been having car trouble again, and we are both thankful it worked on Monday to get her to the grocery store and back.  Also, I'm thankful when she runs an errand out of the house while i am there cleaning as it lets me get more done while she's not looking (she's always saying, "Oh, you don't have to do that!" when i do more detailed work).

#1 Son came in Tuesday morning with a panicked look on his face and said, "Did we miss Red-Headed Alec's birthday?"

Checking the calendar, i was thankful to be able to say we had not, it wasn't until Friday.  I'm also thankful i remembered to contact him Friday.

My little Annie and i are thankful we got our walk in early Tuesday, as it's hot enough now you either walk early or you don't walk.

We're thankful it didn't rain while we were walking.  We've had plenty of rain this week, for which we are thankful, but we didn't want it during our walk.

Ms. G is battling a sinus infection, we're thankful she tested negative for everything contagious and is on medicine but i could still come to do the cleaning.  The first order of business, however, was a run to the regular grocery store.  She kept telling me she'd text me the list, then i laughed inwardly to myself when she made me wait while she wrote the text!  The list came through, and she added, "Call me when you are there so I can choose which flavor of the ice cream I want when you tell me what they have in stock."

I'm thankful for moments to laugh through the day, and Ms. G's micromanaging ways give me plenty of chances.

Wednesday morning, we were thankful my Sweetie was able to follow #1 Son to his friend's shop to drop off his car and bring him back to the house, then i was thankful since i use Lawrence now, GusGus was available for him to borrow to get to work.

Ms. SE's house has been getting harder and harder for us to deal with as the years have gone by.  I'm thankful when we were there Thursday, she was still home and we could talk about it and come to a new understanding.  The boys will now be folding all their own clothes, as they are old enough to become more responsible for this, and will pick up their things in the bathroom to clear it so it can be cleaned.  It was this or possibly having to not do her house any longer, and we don't want to do that, they are good friends.

#1 Son's car was ready Thursday and we're thankful he got a friend to drive him out to pick it up, getting there just before the shop closed, as he would be working all day Friday with no time to get it and they are closed over the weekend.

When we were doing our Mall-Mart shopping this week, i was thankful to run into one of the most cheerful workers i've ever met there.  An older man stocking the shelves and i had a fun conversation about what a good day it was, in spite of the weather.  I mentioned you can have a great day even if it's raining or a lousy one even if the sun is shining and he said, "Yep, you might as well enjoy whatever the weather is since you can't change it!"

He was quite refreshing and i'm going to look for him again next time i go.

Yesterday was one of the strangest days for traffic i've seen in this area.  There was none.  It was spooky.  Times when the freeways should have been stopped up were running fine, i got everywhere i needed to go with no having to wait at the same lights for several cycles, even the notorious afternoon traffic was almost nonexistent.  I was so thankful i was almost beside myself.

Then, wonder of wonders, our little Annie took a genuine, full blown nap.  Not a one hour lie down and then get up crying, when she started to wake after an hour i leaned back and closed my eyes and she went back to sleep for over an hour more, finally waking slowly and with a smile!  I was so thankful, and so was her mama, as she got to take an extra long shower.

The cat shelter is booming.  All those kittens which have been in foster care are now in cages and up for adoption and boy, howdy! are they getting adopted.  Friday evening was crazy busy with only two staff members there instead of four (one on vacation, one sick), Ms. M and i were thankful to pitch right in and get everything done we needed to do, plus a little extra.

Also, there were two more adoptions while we were there, emptying more cages so more of our fosters can come in.  We're thankful when things stay busy and cats are finding homes.
