That Kind of Day (Six Sentence Story), We've Got This (Sammy's Poetry Day), and Generator Happiness (Brian's Thankful Thursday)

 ***********************************

She sat on the front porch, swinging and just enjoying the breeze, the warm sun, the day.

It was a day to watch the world go by, and it did go by.  The two ladies who made a circuit of the neighborhood almost every day went past, waving their greetings and continuing deep in their conversation that seemed to never end, no matter how often or how far they went.  Joggers went by at a faster clip, while some dog-walkers were pulled along faster still by their excited-to-be-out pooches.

Eventually she yawned, stretched, and got up from the swing, determined to wander on in and see what she could scrounge up for a nibble.  A nibble, a nap, and then whatever came up next -- a day off was meant to be spent this way.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day!  This week's image and my poem:

We've got this, friend,

Just you and me,

We've worked and trained

So tirelessly,

And this is going

To be the day

We reach our goal,

Together all the way!

Brian of Brian's Home hosts the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.   It's time to share something for which i am thankful.

This week i am thankful that Handyman Mike, the Generator Guy, came back with all the fuses needed to make sure the generator will run without us having to manually flip the transfer switch.

It used to be, if the electricity went out, the generator would sense the loss of power and start to run, but not flip the switch that allowed it to power the house, we had to go flip it ourselves.  When the electricity came back on, the opposite would happen, the generator would shut itself off, but not let the electric power through to the house until we went and flipped that switch again.

This new-used generator has a different computer panel type, so it will flip the switch for us.  The house is protected in case of an outage, even if no one is home!

A Mixed Bag of Ten Things of Thankful

***********************************

That was quick.

Not so much the fact that Thankful Day has come around so fast, but the weather and what it does, and how it changes.

Last Saturday, there were once again murmurings that we were in the possible line of bad weather.  Instead of letting it bother me, we took Coda to NOLA and we had a great time.  We are always thankful to be able to do that.

On Sunday, Sweetie was back singing with the church choir, and we are so thankful.  They can only have half the choir at a time, they have to spread out on the stage and wear masks any time they are not up there singing, but it's wonderful to see him back up there again.

Monday morning, i worked and fielded phone call after phone call, and i am thankful i can work and coordinate other stuff at the same time.

Mr. Mike, the Generator Guy, was supposed to come on Tuesday.  Could he come Monday instead, so as to be ahead of any possible weather?  Sure, i said, and then i got Sweetie to make sure he would be home, and also had to get him to come to my work place and get the check for Mr. Mike.

Yes, thankfully, Sweetie was able to come, and he was able to get my prescriptions that were ready, and he would be home for the afternoon.

It turned out my Monday afternoon client was not well, so i was thankful to be back before Mr. Mike showed up, as i got to talk with him about several things and confirm several things.

Thankfully we were also able to help him load up the old, dead generator and make a place where the used one in good condition we are getting will go in a couple of weeks.

Then came news that most likely instead of our area, the area where we love to spend our yearly summer vacation would be hit by a storm.  Indeed, it was hit, and hit hard.

We are thankful that DiDreaming, my friend from the Mobile area, got rain and not a lot else.

The Flora-Bama Lounge and Package Liquor, where i go to church when on vacation (yes, the owner wants people to drink responsibly and sponsors a church and an addiction recovery group) was flooded, but it's not the first time.  They wring out the tent, set up a couple of lean-to areas, and get back to business.  Not much phases them, i think.

On Wednesday, Ms. G gave me several cans of cat food for my elderly cats that need a supplement, and i am always thankful for extra food for them.  Then on Friday, at the shelter, they gave me even more cans that were donated and they can't use (they keep the ones they can use of course).

Thursday saw Sweetie working out at the farm with The Big Boss, so some extra pay, plus he told us to buy a tank of gas for Lunceford the Land Yacht next time it is empty.

Coda is thankful for walks in the woods, and for the fact that i am getting better at throwing her ball as long as i throw underhanded.  My shoulders are toast so no throwing the standard way here.

Bigger Girl wrote me back after i emailed her.  She is doing well in California, and i am thankful (so is she).

Today i am thankful to be taking Coda to NOLA again, and thankful that Grandpa contacted me last night to tell me to come early since he has a computer guy coming.  Telling me in the morning, it would be too late to get there early!

We're also thankful we were able to get several copies of a local magazine that he wanted, i am taking them to him today.

Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Kristi and her co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.
