Young People’s Problems, a Random and Happy Tuesday Post, Plus Wednesday’s Words

***********************************

It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus

When Bigger Girl called me late last week to tell me about the porch incident, she, as is usual for her, said something funny.  She told me, “Mom, all this happens to me, and I don’t even get a scar out of it, just a bruise.  Scars are stories, bruises are lessons, but I didn’t learn anything!”

Personally, i think falling through someone’s porch while trying to deliver them a pizza is quite a story.

Speaking of stories, #1 Son has an interesting one that makes me glad i am not young and trying to date in this day and age.  As best i remember, his conversation with his own manager at work went something like this:

Manager:  I need to talk to you guys.  Things are going to get interesting around here over the next couple of weeks.  Ella just told me that her roommate’s boyfriend tested positive for Covid-19, so her roommate has to isolate until her tests come back, and so does Ella.  If Ella tests positive, she will be out for the whole two weeks.

This also means that Harry, since you are Ella’s boyfriend, you need to leave now and go get tested, and if you come up positive, you can’t come back for two weeks.

[Insert #1 Son’s  name here], I need to see you privately.

#1 Son (after they are in the office with the door closed): What’s up?

Manager:  The news gets worse, and I didn’t want Harry to hear this, Ella is going to tell him herself.  You know Al, our other assistant manager?

#1 Son:  Yeah?

Manager:  Well, Ella was cheating on Harry with him, so he is out, too, possibly for two weeks, so you and I are the only managers.

#1 Son:  Oh, no!

Manager:  It gets worse.

#1 Son:  How?

Manager:  You know Carl, the other cook?

#1 Son:  Don’t tell me.

Manager:  Yes, he’s been with her, too, so he’s out until his test comes back or two weeks, so you and Greg are our only two cooks.

#1 Son:  Great.

Manager:  It gets worse.

#1 Son:  No!

Manager:  You know Blake the delivery driver?

#1 Son:  Don’t tell me!

Manager:  Yep, so we are down by a delivery driver/dishwasher, too.  And, of course, Ella being out means we are down a waitress and kitchen prep person.

#1 Son was laughing by the time he told me all of this, but it was not funny at the time, and it still isn’t for poor Harry.  #1 Son’s conclusion is that Ella will not come back at all, now that she has been found out she will be too embarrassed.  Also, since Harry has been talking about moving out of state to be with his dad but was staying here for Ella, he now has no reason not to move, and will get a good recommendation and find a restaurant management job where his dad is living.

Next time you are imagining being young again, remember what these young people have to deal with these days.

Anybody ready for some funny or interesting stuff  forwarded by Grandma?

Hope you all have a fabulous Tuesday!

  1. Ella seems to have been a popular girl, although I'm guessing that's no longer the case.
interesting selection of words this week. orts is new to me.

  2. I agree your daughter's pizza delivery mishap sounds like quite a story to me.
Ella doesn't sound like a very decisive young woman and obviously has problems with the word no.
Thanks for the words. I will work on them and be back in a while. Possibly quite a while.

  3. That dog photo is just great.

    God bless.

  4. My, that is quite a story at that restaurant! Love the photos. The dog in bed and man on the floor is something we could see happening with our mom.

  5. Are you calling me archaic Messymimi? That is cruel of you. I know all of these words. Indeed my father often told me I was a mooncalf, and he also accused me of being a magpie with a lust for frivolity and fandangle. Orts was a word I learned here in the blogosphere. I marvel at the intrinsic beauty that can be encapsulated in an orts jar (MotherOwl take a bow). However I am going to confine these words to this paragraph, shut the gate on them and move on.

Move on to something which fascinates me. From my quiet little corner I simply cannot understand the intense interest in our Monarch (and her peculiar family). It seems as if their slightest hiccup or sneeze is instantly front page news and their clothing, family feuds, tantrums, and private scandals get an unbelievable coverage in all the media. It is not that I wish them any harm, but their concerns/priorities are miles away from my own. I sometimes wish that we could dump them, throw off the outdated shackles and reduce our dependence on this outdated form of Government. And then I think of America and shiver...

    1. When i see what famous people have to endure now, i am the one who shivers. There's no way i would want to live in that glass fishbowl.

    2. No arguments from me. I couldn't live like that either. And fortunately don't have to.

    3. I agree about the fishbowl, but I do like having a monarch. In a way it is nice to know others have some of the problems we humbler people do.

    4. Oh, this is so good, EC. Your use of the prompts is as skilful as ever. It is interesting to me to read views from overseas regarding our Royals. Over here by and larger there are two camps - the lovers and the haters.

  13. I found that story so sad. What is wrong with Ella that she needs so much reinforcement of herself in her life. I know there were girls like that when I was young, fortunately I did not hang out with them I hope everyone stay healthy regardless of their morals.

  22. Having negotiated a settlement with the dwarves which was not too exhorbitant, the thought of parting with so much gold made Alcalador shiver, after all, in common with most dragons, the smell of gold was enough to reduce him to a state of ecstasy and he would find losing any more than he had to a cruel penance for what he was about to do. He was, after all, monarch of all he surveyed and his survey included coverage of many a mile. He sometimes wished it was possible to put a gate across the cave entrance in order to confine his treasure trove. However, this would probably only advertise his existence to the mooncalf adverturers who sought to find his treasure and steal it from him. Whilst he was musing on these thoughts, Eleuthera arrived and looked every inch an attractive human woman. He requested her to turn her back and immediately turned into a stark naked man. However, he had stashed clothes near by so he dressed quickly adding all the modern fandangles that men of the day liked to wear. He told the witch she could turn round and she beheld a very handsome man with long black hair tied into a pony tail. His dark eyes sparkled with amusement as he walked forward with a throw away air. There was already a secret passage to the mountain cave which was known to very few and the handsome pair set off on their exploration. One thing which occurred to Alcalador, as they left, was that it was Sigurd the Dragonslayer Remembrance Day, he hoped this was not significant.

    1. I love this Jo. Of course. Mind you I suspect that Alcalador is more beautiful as a dragon than as a man (which might be my prejudices showing).

    2. Well of course he was Sue, but few of us would appreciate his natural form up close and personal.

    3. Excellent story! Are you going to write more? My hope is the dwarves don't get greedy, and the pair run into no trouble.

    4. Thanks messymimi, I have been writing my dragon story for a while now. I plan to continue if I can find the words LOL

    5. Well done, Jo. To be writing your own dragon story is a feat in itself, but to incorporate the WFW prompts at the same time - Wow!
