It Was a Doozy (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy's Poetry Day and Brian's Thankful Thursday

 ***********************************

With Ms. G, you never know what you will get, and yesterday what we got was a doozy of a chore.

Week before last we'd stored enough linens in one of the closets, in those "vacuum all the air out bags" no less, for her to make up at least three times the number of beds she has in the house and this week she wanted to go through more stuff in the closet.

It started out with her arguing with the cat, April, about whether she would be allowed in the room, and in the end there was no help for it but to let her in, whereupon April proceeded to do nothing but get in the way, but we expected that.

Ms. G pulled out memories, is what she was really doing -- her Beatles thermos from 1965, without a mark on it, her tennis racquets, from the early 70's and in pristine condition (Chris Evert Signature Series, with one tiny scuff which she told me how it happened on the court in great detail and lamented it the whole time), and other delights, until we got to her beloved golf clubs.

Oh, my, she'd gotten a set of men's professional clubs at a pawn shop and played with them for years, carrying them in her very special and expensive bag, but in the years since she hasn’t been able to play, the grips had deteriorated and gotten black smudgy goo all over everything in the bag; out came the cleaning wipes, cling wrap to wrap around the handles to keep more of the black stuff from coming off and doing damage, old rags, and Goof Off.

Ms. G sat on the bed and i stood nearby to hand her things, in this little bedroom, with the Goo Gone, which is a miracle worker for getting this stuff off,  but smelling the room up so badly i wondered if i was going to pass out, and we got as much of everything clean as we possibly could at one go; she’s going to have the clubs re-gripped and somehow we have to figure out how to get the gunk from the inside of the bottom of a very expensive golf bag.

While Good Fences Around the World seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird, i still enjoy looking for and posting interesting fences, so i will!

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day This week's image and my poem:

The builder said, "I got this,"

but he's gone quite insane,

if he thinks I'll buy the house this way,

he better think again!

  1. Shame about the golf bag, you might need to find someone who can unstitch, clean and restitch. That driveway is a shocker! There's no way I'd accept that! Good picture and poem.

  2. Oh yes, the Chris Event Signature Series - mine hardly used, but of course. Wow, that photo - no, no, no! Great poem, though!

  3. Ms G is a force of nature.
Love your poem, loathe the driveway. Can you imagine it on icy mornings?

  4. Certainly a hard-working day with Ms G. Of course I always enjoy seeing the fence and wondering what might be on the other side. Good for the imagination. Good poem but terrible driveways.

  5. It was probably almost as interesting as going through old stuff of your own you forgot about. Even though it was not the most fun day for you, we are sure she enjoyed going for a short trip down memory lane.

  7. surely one of the most amazing things about ageing and the past and such, how so much can be tied to such simple cues...

  8. Hello! It's been a while and I was delighted to drop by and see six sentences about your adventures with Mrs. G. And glad for the reminder about Goo Gone. It's great to not need the stuff but when you do, that's the stuff. Good luck with the golf bag. Better luck to those home owners with the ridiculous incline!

  9. THAT DRIVEWAY :) ... and i loved your poem that went with it, mimi! as to the golf bag-- is it that you're unable to reach down far enough into the bag to get it clean? maybe try pine-sol and a flexible mop to swish it clean? ... good luck! xx, ren

  10. Oh my, I'll bet that goo gone smell was really bad. Cool poem. We had a driveway that was somewhat close to that when we lived in West Virginia, except it was going downward instead of up.

  12. Goo Gone works good, but I agree the smell is awful. Such a strong citrus smell.

  14. Your Mrs. G reminds me so much of my friend Anne. I helped her clean out closets and storage for months. The original idea was to eliminate clutter- but I would say she parted with exactly 5 items over the course.

  15. Cordelia, what a little beauty of a tortie! Look at all those colours in her coat. Dani is part tortie and part tabby. Cordelia looks like she has taken her place as Queen until she finds her forever home. Go, Cordelia!

  18. It's definitely the silliest driveway/garage combo we've EVER EVER seen! Whoever the building inspector was must have received a big wad of $$$ to overlook this mess! LOL Thanks or playing along Mimi.....
