Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts that encourages us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by River at Drifting Through Life.

River's words for this week are:

1. endless
2. glittering
3. aqua
4. glow
5. diamonds
6. pearls

and/or:

1. bread
2. wallet
3. navy blue
4. directory
5. calculator
6. crossword puzzles

and a couple of extra photos from when she walked the coastal trail:

"Well," she said, stopping to catch her breath, "the water is still the same ENDLESS expanse as back home, but the cliffs and flora are completely different.  I'm not used to climbing!"

Her husband pulled out his water bottle and nodded in agreement, then took a long drink.  "It's beautiful in a different way."

"We're used to a different color to the water, more of an AQUA.  This is deeper, darker, not a NAVY BLUE but closer to that end of the spectrum."

He just nodded with a far off look in his eye, the same as when she talked about the differences in colors and patterns in interior design.  He liked the different shades, but to him "blue" was enough of a descriptor.

She had always loved the water, describing it as GLITTERING like DIAMONDS and dissolving into PEARLS as the waves crashed ashore.  A feast for the eyes that made the heart GLOW.

He had always loved the water, the crashing, pounding roar of it, the wind an almost constant companion.  He could feel the rhythm of it, and found it exhilarating.

They stopped at a likely looking area, spread out a blanket, and pulled out dinner.  While their WALLET could afford the most expensive of luxury meals, they had opted for something very simple this night, a picnic of BREAD and cheese and wine.

As they sat and watched the ever changing and yet ever the same scene before them, both were glad they hadn't dismissed a trip to a seashore out of hand for this vacation.

"This sure beats slaving over the CALCULATOR or figuring out what's going into next year's DIRECTORY at work," he noted.

"It even beats sitting at the house after working doing CROSSWORD PUZZLES," she added.

They sat with their arms around each other and watched the sun set, then headed back to their hotel.

"Same time and place next year?" he asked, as they walked into the lobby.

"It's a deal!" she said, and they both smiled.

  11. I love your story and share both their feelings for the ocean, loving the glittering blues and pearly wave ripples as well as the wind and crashing boom of waves. The climb is well worth the effort too.
