It's Thankful Day, and i'm ready to list the good things!
GusGus Die Fledermaus came home last Saturday running as well as she used to. We're thankful to have two cars, one of which we can use for going to NOLA.
While she was in "the bone yard" as the car people call the area where they have cars sitting for months waiting for parts, her inspection sticker expired and i don't happen to trust oil that's been sitting in an engine for 7 months. She got an oil change and passed inspection Monday, thankfully she's good to go.
Sweetie and Brother-in-Law have been planning a trip to see their sister who lives about a four hour drive north of here. It was to be a "spend a couple of days at their house" trip and we're all thankful it came off beautifully.
Their sister had been wanting to see a particular movie series, and Sweetie had a copy on DVD. Since it was her birthday, he gave it to her, and i'm thankful he was able to bring a gift he knew she'd like. Guessing what someone wants always makes me nervous, i'd rather find something they've asked for so i know it's right.
They left Monday morning, after they dropped GusGus off for me, so i'm thankful that Ms. D had outdoor work for us and she dropped me back at Kevin and Lenny's, just a couple of minutes from here, so i could pick it up.
This also meant they were gone Tuesday, and i had a day off as planned. Having a day and the house to myself hasn't happened in so long i can't remember when, and i enjoyed it and am thankful.
The cat rescue organization from across the river is needing help again, and i'm thankful Ms. G gives me extra time before work on Wednesdays to do it.
This week, Ms. G had me climbing in the attic, moving furniture and getting something down she needs. We're both thankful attic climbing is still in my repertoire, and i'm thankful she let me choose where and how to move the items that stayed up there. It's set up a little easier for me to get into now.
Ms. SE and Mr. DE have an electronic gate which has to be opened to let us onto the property to clean. They have "clickers" in the cars, but we have to get out and push the buttons on the keypad.
The keypad has always been on the right side of the gate, requiring me to put on galoshes and wade through the low part of the driveway where there's standing water after every storm.
This past weekend, trying to figure out yet again what might be wrong with the system, Mr. DE made the discovery that the keypad is not hardwired in, so it could be moved to the high, dry side of the gate, and it runs on batteries, which he replaced. Success! It's now much easier, the whole system is working right.
Friday evening at the cat shelter was busy, busy, and we had extra volunteers! We're always thankful when that happens. Also, i can say with certainty the brothers featured this past Awww Monday were adopted together.
Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Dyanne and her co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.

ReplyDeleteLOVE your facts on history and the past and love your kitties and love your 10 thankfuls!!! Thanks from US and Loulou for YOU!
ReplyDeleteHow good for you about the gate entrance and also helping with the cat shelter. You work hard and get a few rewards to make it more enjoyable. I'm thankful today that the snow has ended for the day and it is to be above freezing. Winter is just no fun in my older life. Lynn
ReplyDeleteAww, this was a good week of thankfuls!
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting week Mimi especially with all this snow.

I enjoyed your thankfuls and I am glad you got a much-deserved day off. XO
ReplyDeleteThose really are good thankfuls and you must be so happy to have your car back.
ReplyDeleteExcellent news about the keypad being moved :) And I'm glad GusGus had an oil change and passed inspection, may he live many more years. It's nice when kitten brothers get adopted together.
ReplyDeleteAlways love your thankfuls.
ReplyDeleteYou had a day off! :-) I'm so glad that your car is out of the shop and you had a much-deserved break.
ReplyDeleteThank you for helping the kitties. It warms my heart.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to read a TToT post of a good week. (Having the proper number of cars surely is right up there with having a day off. In a house all to yourself. Bonus!)
ReplyDeletea course, I gots to say, 'Not that you can't or shouldn't do attic-centric work, but it is prudent to take the moment to think strategically before beginning'. Which I'll bet you do, but there is, imo, some benefit in thinking about it in terms of 'Where are the secret traps in the process, the hidden hazards'.
Doesn't diminish the enjoyment of still doing what you know you can do, just a pause first.
enough with my lectury commenting
have a good week
Yay, Gus Gus is all better! I know I've told you before, but I totally relate to you and your "seasoned" cars, as we are the same!
ReplyDeleteHah! We BOTH got to enjoy time alone in our houses this past week! Glad you had the day off to enjoy yours!
Why would someone install the key pad to a gate on the right side of the gate when the driver would be on the left side when they drove up? Oh, well, good thing it was able to be moved and make life easier for everyone who has to use it!
Aww, the kitty brothers got adopted together makes my heart happy! We adopted baby brothers four years ago now. Funny, though, one brother is fiercely independent and the other is fiercely a big baby and HE has bonded with my calico who is 2 years older. She still bathes him several times a day, and they are curled up together on the foot of my bed right now!
Through the months of reading your '10
ReplyDeleteThings of Thankful' posts, you have taught me to look for the 'thankful' in everything. There's always something to be found. (And I have to say that, as you can find something to be thankful for in car trouble, I have big steps to follow!)
You should join us at the TToT! We'd love to have you join the hop!
