He'd always dreamed of a place he could call his own, a bit of land for a farm, some cattle, a couple of pigs, a shop where he could tinker to his heart's content, and a small lake, but big enough for him to canoe and fish.
He raised his family in the city but bought his piece of land and went out there as often as he could, building a shop and barn, fixing up the old house, and sometimes taking the time for fishing.
After he retired and the kids were gone, he bought cattle and a couple of pigs, planted the fields and moved out there with his wife.
He took care of her until her death, and then remarried a widow who agreed to live out there with him, for he would be nowhere else.
His small holding brought him great joy, although it was never a big operation it was just right for him, tending the stock and growing some crops and tinkering in his workshop, and fishing on his own lake, canoeing on his lake, always loving his lake.
The place has long since been sold away, but i have very fond memories of Papa's little slice of heaven, which he called, "Lake Me Own."

Brian's Family of Brian's Home hosts Angel Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop. It's time to share something for which i am thankful.
Today i am thankful we got to Ms. G's shelves yesterday before they collapsed. She's had some overloaded shelving drawers in her "cat room" (litter box room) which is also the storage room and which we knew were not long for this world. Yesterday we spent almost 6 hours offloading, cleaning the cat litter dust, putting together a huge, heavy duty shelving unit, and getting those now useless shelves out the door.
