Somebody Find My Sanity, Please (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy’s Poetry Day, and Brian’s Thankful Thursday

This is my life right now in a nutshell and i give you my word i am not making it up.

Little Ben, eight weeks old, is in the hospital for a bladder infection, and i'm on GG duty as often as needed with Annie while her parents take shifts at the hospital.

Grandma is getting worse and i will now have to drive down there twice a week to help, sometimes spending the night.

Mr. BA and Ms. GA are out of town and i am having to tend their clowder of cats before and after work each day.

My usual workload and church meeting schedule has not changed and the check engine lights are now on in both cars (Lawrence the Honda and Slow-Moe the Pontiac).

This week is the Six Sentence Cafe's Poetry Slam, so somebody please tell my muse to get in here and give me something to work with, i would like to do more than just watch and serve snacks, although that may end up being what happens.

Coffee Break

Mimi always kept a fresh coffee cake in the back, the kind you needed when you were a bit nervous and flustered and just did not know what to do with yourself.

Although when she wanted something calming or soothing, she would choose peppermint tea, she believed coffee cake should always go with coffee.  She kept a very fine water process decaffeinated version and her favorite French press pot to make a good enough decaf to go with the cake.  It would even stand up to heated milk for cafe au lait.

She went to the back and made some and brought the cake and cup of coffee back for Aurelia, stopping to notice as she approached how Hūnga had accepted the young lady as she was talking to The Gatekeeper and The Bartender.  

"This will help," she said simply, "while you talk to the Bartender, and trust me, whatever happened, it won't be held against you."

Mimi had spent hours in the kitchen, making desserts for the special celebration.

She'd even made hojaldras, one of the family specialties.  It took a long time to make the pastry treats, you wanted them to have just the right flakiness when someone bit into them.

Now she was sitting with a cold glass of iced tea at the end of the bar, cooling off from standing over the stove for so long.

Once she finished it, she was going to go give the restrooms one last check, just because it's always a good idea, and then she'd come back to her seat and wait.

She wasn't sure what the plans were for this special evening, as the Tall, Thin Man hadn't exactly given much detail, but if there was plenty to eat and clean facilities it meant the bases were covered, she could simply be there to tend anything needing tending, and enjoy everything as it unfolded.
