And now, a bit of random talk from around here, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked.
As much of a hassle as it was to set up, i am very much enjoying the Informed Delivery service from the United States Postal Service.
Once i proved i was really me, they started sending me an email every morning with pics of the pieces of mail i should get that day. It's a way to keep up and know if something doesn't show we have mail thieves around again.
Also since our mail never arrives before 3pm, and sometimes as late as 8pm (and one time it arrived at 11am the next day, but that's another story), i don't spend all day wondering if we are even going to get anything.
The last couple of weeks have been difficult as far as work is concerned, and i may be in need of new clients. One told me she was having the house painted and other things done and she would call in a couple of weeks when all the work was finished and she needed me again. We all know that's usually code for good-bye.
The other problem is with my dear friend Ms. S.
She is on a very fixed income. Her sister pays for me to come over each week. Her sister is waffling, one minute she wants to help, the next she does not.
Ms. S's son is telling her she should be able to do her own housekeeping. He does not realize how frail she really is, i think. He also wants to simply come in and throw away everything in her house, which will not make it better. Just like of course an alcoholic would be all better if s/he would just stop drinking, of course a hoarder would be all better if s/he would just throw everything away.
It's not that simple, i wish it were that simple.
Someone recently asked me about eating gluten free. My ideal is to follow a raw vegan diet. When i go out to eat, i will eat some cooked food. One thing i've noticed since i cleaned out my diet several years ago is that foods with gluten do not agree with me (that's all i will say to stay out of the TMI territory). Thus if i have a wrap sandwich, lots of veggies and some guacamole in a tortilla, i make sure it's a gluten free tortilla.
The Big Boss has been keeping Sweetie busy one to three days a week, which has been nice. The Big Boss has always had a notorious sweet tooth, and was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic (at age 81). He cleared out his cabinet (his wife is a health nut like me and never touches sweets, so no arguments) and he gave my kids cookies, brownies, banana bread, and even Twinkies. We are having to freeze some of it because it's too much at once!
That's about all the news for now, i hope we've all seen the last of Irma and the whole hurricane season.

ReplyDeleteI hope more new clients will need your service and the old clients will return too!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness I read early and will not miss Chocolate Milkshake Day! (Have you noticed all my comments are prompted by food? ;-p)
ReplyDeleteSorry about your work issues. I hope you get them resolved soon.
ReplyDeleteWe rarely eat sweets here and I can't remember the last time we had sweets in the house. Now ice cream is another issue altogether. Rarely have that either, but we love ice cream.
Have a fabulous day. ☺
Oy, work issues. The only thing that can solve them sometimes is a chocolate milkshake. Even in good times, a pre-emptive shake is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI predict more new clients will be in the way.
ReplyDeleteWe're looking for someone to do light housekeeping. I wish you lived nearby so I could hire you. Lots of paintings to dust.
ReplyDeleteI love that mail service you told us about, it is so fun getting an email in the morning with photos of my mail, although they never have photos of all of it. I am sure you could easily get more clients.
ReplyDeleteMimi,
ReplyDeleteI accidentally stumbled on the Informed Delivery Service USPS offers. That's a nice feature. Our mail often runs late and there has been issues in the past with our mail being tampered with but it's been with the outgoing mail. We rarely put anything in our box anymore because of this, especially if we need to send a check to someone, as that's what was taken from our box in the past. The culprit changed the "To" line which I admit I should've filed in the complete business name. I shortened it and they made it look like a person's name, then they cashed it. Luckily my bank froze payment on that check without cost to me. What a blessing, too! I'll have to check on subscribing to this service via email instead of being forced to remember to go to their site when I'm expecting something. Thanks for the reminder & the visit!
I love sugar. I have such a hard time making sure not to eat too much. Then again, if you go long enough without a particular sweet thing, the sweet things you do have seem that much sweeter. Sometimes to the point of being unable to eat it sweet. So good for the 81 year old on cleaning out his kitchen. I think if I were 81, I'd say "screw it!" and eat what I wanted. Sometimes life is too short. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in the delivery service email from USPS. I had no idea they offered that. It sounds great!
