Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey is on a blog break and is sorely missed, we hope she comes back soon.   Charlotte/Mother Owl participates, and now Karen at Baking in a Tornado is jumping in at least once a month, too.  Anyone else is welcome to join in the fun, just let Diane know, or leave a poem in the comments of one of our blogs.

This week the theme is Favorite Record/Record Player/Stereo.

When i was a little girl

The record player i had

Was cheerful blue and played 3 speeds

And i was very glad.

There were some favorite records

That taught me my favorite thing,

To "Listen and Learn with Phonics"

Learning to read made my heart sing.

There were also others that were

Just there to amuse,

"Dinah the Dancing Dinosaur"

Never left me singing the blues.

The Three Stooges entertained

With the funny "Mairzy Doats" song,

Mr. Jinx and Pixie and Dixie

Would never get along.

When i got a little older,

My stereo in black

Played the latest albums,

There never was a lack.

From Beatles to Led Zeppelin and others,

Even Elvis and Rolling Stones,

My taste is quite eclectic,

The music gets in your bones.

Big Band music is also a favorite,

Also listening to old radio shows,

We still have lots of those albums,

But you know how it goes...

Today we mostly listen

On the radio or online,

But the days of spinning records,

Nothing was so fine.

Wishing many happy returns of the day to Grandpa!  (My father, my children's grandfather, simply called Grandpa on my blog.)

  15. Mimi,

You should've joined the 4M dance floor today. You have music! Speaking of which I do not remember either of these songs. My folks didn't have too many records in the house and I only remember one that I had as a kid, "Puff the Magic Dragon". You have a lot of references to music of some sort in your tidbits I see. Edison demonstrates the Phonograph on this day and "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" is heard for the first time. I like your Sparks. Thanks for stopping by today. Sending warm wishes to you and yours for a blessed Thanksgiving. We have lots to be thankful for, don't we?
