About ten years ago, Little Girl and i were heading home from a cleaning job she'd helped me with and were chatting of this and that.
As is typical for the area, we approached a traffic light and were far enough back that its change to yellow told me we'd be sitting there for a few minutes.
The same change told the big dude in the big pickup truck just behind us and in the lane to our left to gun it, as if he saw in the amber color a sign saying, "I dare you," and he was going to respond with, "Challenge accepted."
He gunned his engine, making a racket loud enough to rattle windows as he roared past us and through the light just as it turned red.
Little Girl shook her head and said, "Yeah, yeah, you think you've got a big manhood, we're not impressed!"
I could not help but laugh, and while i was a bit surprised at how she phrased it, i was very glad at age 16 she understood that point.

While Good Fences Around the World seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird, i still enjoy looking for and posting interesting fences, so i will!

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
Sometimes you almost tear your hair out,
sometimes they make you want to scream,
but ultimately, you really, truly love them,
and being their parent is your dream.

Love your six sentence story. Little girl was right. Himself was told by a taxi driver in Egypt that red was for stop, green was for go, and yellow was for pretty.
ReplyDeleteLittle girl knows what's what.
ReplyDeleteI remember years ago someone saying red is for stop green is for go yellow is for go faster.
That is a wonderful gate and fence.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
What an impressive fence. Wonder what's behind there? I love your poem.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteLittle Girl's comment was brilliant! Your poem is spot-on.
Yeah yellow is called "taxi-green" here because taxis and other commercial drivers (Uhg missnig a descriptive term here, hope you understand) see yellow ligth as an excuse to speed up to make it over the crossroads instead of stopping and having to wait.
ReplyDeleteVery smart girl at 16! Love the parent photo, sweet and true.
ReplyDeletelol excellent. very perceptive young person!
ReplyDeleteWhere once I looked both ways on newly-turned green, I do not proceed through a green light even if I'm the seventh car in line. Don't know about down there, but color blindness is reaching epic proportions among drivers.
Smart 'little girl' ~ lovely variety in your post ~ great story ~ parenting is work for sure ~ no matter the age ~ great fence photo too ~ Xo
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
Sigh. Those crazy can't-wait-for-yellow drivers! Very smart girl!
ReplyDeleteThat was a funny story and a great poem. I'm glad you finally got to go after the belt that you need. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteFunny story and great poem.
ReplyDeleteThe "punchline" to your Six, so made me laugh. One of those instinctive things, I'd say, lol
ReplyDeleteGlad you had time to buy a belt. Belts are one of those accessories I despise shopping for. Thankfully, there are few outfits for which I need one!
Thank heavens I visited today or I would not have known today is the day to blow bubbles for my cat. I know exactly where bubble blowing thingy is too. I just put it away yesterday. Blowing bubbles is a favorite activity for my g-g-daughter. That's a great fence you found!! My daughter says thing similar to what your daughter said at the traffic lights about men who reverse their cars into drive in parking spot.
ReplyDeleteI knew I couldn't go all day without commenting anonymously at least once.
ReplyDeleteThe ending of your Six made me laugh. I feel the exact same way as the Little Girl.
ReplyDeleteThe poem was cute. 🙂
Apparently Pauline wasn't the only one to accidentally go anonymous.
DeleteThat is a PRECIOUS poem........made my heart happy!
ReplyDeleteLove, Pam
