People are Funny, Pets are Funny, A Ten Things of Thankful Post

***********************************

This week, I'm thankful for those funny things which happen to exercise our funny bone.   Thus, a few amusing things from the week for which i am thankful.

A few weeks ago, Grandpa's low tire light flashed on, so he stopped to air up the tire and noticed a screw in the tire.  He aired it up and decided to see if it would hold or go flat again.

This past Saturday, the low tire light came on again, it's been a month so he figures it's a slow leak and he's not going to worry about it quite yet.  As we were going home from the store, he said he wanted to stop at the gas station.  Because we always take a right at the corner by the store, he turned right and made a u-turn to go back to the gas station, instead of going straight which would have been faster.  We're all such creatures of habit and i was quite amused by his taking the long way just because he always goes that way.

I was also thankful this station has an air machine and i knew how to use it.

Our cats are very well fed, even the vet says so.  Our cats, however, tell another story.

I'm amused by how they are always trying to convince my Sweetie they're starving (i'm a hard sell), even right after they have tipped over the treats and gorged themselves.

Sweetie had been having "a little trouble" with the vacuum cleaner at Grandma and Grandpa's house.

I'm amused by the understatement of "a little trouble," and how i had to take the thing apart to get it working again.

Sunday at church we had a first, the electricity for the entire campus flashed out. About a minute later it came back, but the screens where the Bible readings and music lyrics are for us to follow did not come back up.

Even before the lights came back, though, i was amused by the fact the people simply sat as if nothing happened, and the preacher simply raised his voice a bit louder and continued with the reading as if nothing was going on.   It's funny how we all know what's next, and just continue to do it.

Sunday evening, #2 Son called and wanted me to tend little Annie.  I went over thinking he and His Bride would want to go out.

I'm amused by the fact newlyweds want to go out, newly parents just want to sleep.  They didn't leave, I just held the baby while they took a good, long nap!

Carl's place was in a right state, as was the house to which it is attached, as the mom, Ms. V, was out of town.  I'm amused by how much mess two men can make in 3 days, especially when one is Carl.

Another thing i'm finding amusing is how people are reacting to the political situation right now.  Depending on whom you ask, and i have friends on both sides, this past Monday was either the best or worst ever.  On Monday one client was avidly watching the whole proceeding, the other purposefully ignoring it in dismay.

By the way, mostly i've noticed nothing is all good or all bad, the absolute best or absolute worst ever, which is one reason i'm amused by the differing reactions.

Sweetie has been trying to figure out a deal to help a friend, a deal involving tubes for amplifiers which i don't understand, but it includes him buying a product he's been wanting anyway.  We were not sure we'd be able to swing the deal for monetary reasons when The Big Boss called and he got extra work, and i'm very amused by how he said, "It's only going to cost us a few dollars to get what I need!"

Actually, it cost the full price, i'm amused how he thinks since he earned the extra money to pay for almost all of it, he got it free.

You know the weather this week had to amuse me.  #1 Son was supposed to take a trip this week to take in a concert with a friend and he decided to cancel at the last minute, which upset his friend.  I'm amused by how the friend thought if they didn't cancel the concert, it would be okay to go.

Actually, they would have both been stranded in the middle of nowhere looking for a hotel if they'd gone, so while amused i'm also thankful they didn't go.

#2 Son, on the other hand, was quite willing to brave the elements and travel across the highway to our neighborhood to go down to the creek where he spent his childhood and see how things were down there.  I'm amused by how much he still loves hanging out at the creek.

I'm amused by how our little lady got introduced to snow and how much fun our neighbors had in it, using golf carts with tow ropes to pull kids on the inflated tubes usually used for going down rivers, and we counted no fewer than 8 snowmen and a snow fort in the field, plus dozens of snowmen in yards everywhere.

Bosses can be funny, too.  Ms. G is one of those fearless people unafraid to do anything she takes it into her head to do and i was amused and relieved to find she actually expected me to stay home because of the weather instead of coming to her house.

It's amusing how all of us seem to think, once we have gone to all the trouble and expense of purchasing a vehicle, it should simply work.  Every bit of repair and maintenance seems to come as a surprise and Sweetie amused me in his shock over how the three-year-old battery in Slow-Moe finally gave it up with the cold we've had.

Ms. SE was amusing in her attempts to rouse her progeny to get them out of the house this past Thursday so we could clean the place.  Children given a free and unexpected week off of school because of weather are unsurprisingly determined to get as much time in bed as possible and watching them sneak around and try to get back into bed or onto the couch without the parents noticing made me laugh.

Ms. GA's clowder of feral cats are amusing in their sudden desire to be indoors.  Lewis has been sleeping inside at night all winter, and now Sunshine has decided to get in on the act, spending his time with Abigail, of all things.  Abigail the three legged friend of everyone has enjoyed having a snuggle buddy on her couch.

I'm thankful for every amusing event, whether caused by person, animal, or weather.

  1. We have to laugh. Most of us look MUCH better laughing than crying. And it feels better too.

  3. It's a good thing you find some of these situations to be amusing. Otherwise I'm sure you would be pulling your hair out by the fistful. They sound funny when I read them but I'm sure at the moment some of them were a little iffy.

  4. "Children given a free and unexpected week off of school because of weather are unsurprisingly determined to get as much time in bed as possible" The last word took me totally by surpirse. Off school would find me out in the snow, with my nose in a book, tinkering, or playing around. NOT in bed, which I always found a waste of time.
