It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus.
Carl was already in the sleep chair when i arrived yesterday and the first thing i noticed when i turned on the light in his room was a plant.
Yep, a real, honest to goodness, dirt and all plant. No matter how long i've known Carl, he can still throw me for a loop sometimes.
Later, when i asked him about it, he said, "We sell them..."
And you just wanted a plant?
He nodded and i told him he needed to remember to water it. He looked confused, so i went ahead and did it for him. I'm not taking bets on the poor plant's chances.
I'd also noticed the empty hall.
Hooray, i thought, the rug is gone.
Um, not so fast.
Things don't change so fast at this house. The rug wasn't gone, just moved to right where Carl could trip over it when he got out of bed. I shifted it further down and got it where it was out of the way of being a hazard.
Once in the laundry room, i found Carl's talent for having the pants leg tucked into the sock has reached new heights.
Then in his closet i found a pair of pants he'd managed to hang up, and it was like this.
I don't think any of us will ever figure out how he did that, and neither will he. In fact, i probably wouldn't want to know.
Meanwhile, i gathered clothes and straightened and noticed this.
A scalp massager, complete with a band-aid attached. In fact, i figured he must have hurt himself because there were band-aids everywhere, often mixed with the q-tips.
The dryer was down to two dryer balls, and i found two more as i gathered laundry.
The fridge was a study.
It included sushi, which i refused to pack for his lunch as i am certain his lunchbox stays every which way but right side up and he'd end up with no lunch if i sent that.
He got up to shower and as i've been in the habit of doing the last few weeks, i told him to throw his pj's out the door once he takes them off so i can wash them in the first load with the sheets.
I also asked about the band-aids. Turns out he trimmed a fingernail too close, which hurts and takes quite a while to grow back out, so we may see those for a while.
As always, his clothes were already in the bathroom but he still came out in only his skivvies because he wanted to talk as he got dressed.
"There was a zoom, and I wanted to go with Sam..."
What happened, i asked.
"It didn't work, but I got to ..."
He trailed off and said something which almost sounded like green beans, although that's probably not what he meant. Probably.
Another thing in the fridge was a candy nougat bar.
Carl grabbed that as he was gathering breakfast and i asked him if he was going to eat candy for breakfast.
"Um..." he said and i mentioned he should probably save it for dessert and have something better for breakfast.
He agreed, or so he said, then took a bite of the nougat bar anyway and said, "Sorry!" through a mouthful.
it's okay, i told him, you're a grown-up and you can have candy for breakfast if you want it.
Still, i took the rest to the main kitchen to cut it into chunks and put it in a zip bag. He told me i didn't need to do that, but i told him it was starting to get hard because it wasn't properly wrapped. He agreed.
Then it was time to make a sandwich. Looking in the fridge, i commented there was no lunch meat.
"Chicken!" he said, and i noticed a whole rotisserie chicken in there.
You want me to cut slices from this? i asked and he looked troubled, then said, "Well, I can help you..."
It's okay, i told him, i can do it, i just wanted to make sure that's what you really want. And the lunch meat is easier, i told him.
"It sure is!" he agreed.
While eating breakfast, he was on the tablet playing a game. He kept talking about his farm and level 29, something about a seed port and email. I left him to it and packed his lunch.
On the way to his room, and then back to the laundry room, i noticed the rug in the hall was slipping all over, which is most unusual. Ms. V is usually very careful to make sure all rugs in the house are backed with a non-skid backing so no one gets hurt, but this was moving so much i was afraid i was going to bust my keister on it.
Later when i asked her about it, it turned out she'd done something in the hall and when she put the rug back, she put the non-skid backing under it upside down, so it wasn't non-skid any more. We reversed it and i quit having to be careful to avoid the rug.
Back to dealing with Carl, though, i finally drew the line on the pumpkin he bought last year when i realized it had some mold on it. He tried to argue it was "only one spot!" but it wasn't and it ended up in the bin.
As i was trying to help him get out the door, he kept asking for things, as he always does.
"Tums?"
You're out again, you need to buy more.
"Gloves?"
Same.
"Vest?"
All five of your safety vests are already in the car.
"Coffee?"
That's on you, buy some on the way to work or go back in the kitchen for more before you leave.
He headed to the kitchen, then came back without any coffee and pulled the last missing dryer ball out of the pocket of his pants, handed it to me and left.
He's a study, and a big kid, as i am reminded every time i find crafts from the library or from Sunday school in his room, or toys on top of the fridge.
Time for some funnies.
Have a blessed and beautiful Tuesday, everyone!

ReplyDeleteYour tales of Carl are hilarious. Even my crazy kids never did that trouser legs and socks thing :)
Kids probably love having him around as he is kind of an adult, but a lot of fun too. It's amazing what a disaster can happen in just a week in his little place.
