Charlotte (MotherOwl)  has selected Glass Elephant Blue as the colour of the month

“ABANDON hope all ye who enter here,” came into her mind unbidden and unlet at her first sight of the place where she would be working.

The sky over the POOR village was a lovely shade of Glass Elephant Blue, but the place itself would UNSTRING your heart.

As she approached the “clinic,” the reality of what she would have to work with — and what she wouldn’t — began to sink in.

Compared to the big city hospital where she’d done her training, this decrepit building would have made her want to VANISH but for the fact being assigned at this medical mission station is what she’d been working toward, what she’d promised her abuela who’d grown up here she would do someday.

She walked in and the woman behind the battered desk looked at her with solemn eyes.  “Todavía no tenemos un doctor,” the woman said flatly.  We don’t have a doctor yet.

Hoping her voice wouldn’t QUAVER, she responded, “Me llamo Linda, la doctora nueva.”  I’m Linda, the new doctor.

The woman behind the desk’s eyes filled with tears, but she smiled.

“Bienvenido.” Welcome.
