A few bumps got thrown into the works this week, but you roll with them and find all the possible thankful things anyway, right?
It's been a few years since #2 Son and i had a good long time in each other's company just to chat, but last Saturday he was going to NOLA to work so he gave me a ride to Grandma and Grandpa's house and we had the drive down and back to simply catch up with each other on a lot of things. We both enjoyed it and were thankful for the opportunity.
Becca and her family were still out of town, so i had another quiet Sunday morning, but i am thankful for it in another way. I realize when i don't have deadlines and commitments, i tend to not pay attention and so end up running late. I'm thankful to realize i have to be accountable, even if only to myself, so i don't fritter away the morning.
Sunday afternoon, i had out little Annie, and she is now walking a few steps at a time. It's a very thankful thing to watch her grow.
Monday morning, i got a text from Grandma the gist of which was, I'm sick, Grandpa is sick, Uncle J is having a hard time taking care of both of us, please help.
I'm thankful i was able to finish work, get an appointment done early, cancel a meeting, get my Sweetie to deliver something for me for said meeting, and get down there in Slow-Moe, our aging car.
Thankfully, since they have no working kitchen during all the repairs, we were able to order supper delivered and i was able to tend to Grandma and let Grandpa finally get some much needed rest.
Tuesday morning, both #2 son and Daughter-in-Law had Very Important Meetings for work, so i rushed back to take care of Annie and was thankful to make it in time.
That afternoon, i was thankful to be able to rent a car and go down there again, once more giving Grandpa some rest and not taking the risk to drive the distance with one of our cars.
By Wednesday morning when i drove back, i was thankful they were both doing well enough i wouldn't need to go again.
Once i was back in town, i was thankful to do my volunteer work and then go to Ms. G's house. She is out of town, and skipping out on her place is not an option when there's critter care needed and no one else is around to do it.
Ms. G called while i was there. "I'm up to my armpits in alligators down here, but I am desperate and while you're at my house I need a favor. Please go get the check for the windows at the house going up for sale next week, they are repairing the windows now, I need you to run the check over there immediately!"
I was thankful to be able to do it, then do critter care, then go home and have some time to put my feet up.
That evening, i was thankful for Bible study, i needed some good company of good friends.
The last time my Sweetie and i did Ms. SE's house, it was really hard. It's mom, dad and two active boys, all of them out of the house most of every day for work or school or after school activities, and the house just kind of gets left "until they have time," which they never do. It was starting to wear us down, especially as we now have Ms. GA as a second client when done with them.
This time we walked in to a relatively tidy home and a note from Mr. DE saying, "Do not do any cleaning in the boy's rooms! They have to do their rooms, and we are all working on keeping the house better between your visits."
My Sweetie and i were so thankful, they'd done a fabulous job, and cleaning is so much easier when you don't have to tidy up first.
Now we will be thankful if they can keep up with it.
All of us are also thankful Mr. BA is recovering from his heart attack. He looked good when we were there cleaning.
I'm thankful i got to bed early that night, too.
Friday i was back at Ms. G's after prayer group, the cats are doing well, all the bird water bowls got filled and they got fresh bird seed, and i was thankful to get done and back in time to take care of Annie for the day.
That evening at the cat shelter, we had extra hands on deck and two adoptions, we're thankful for a great Friday night.
Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Clark and his co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.
