Pores and Percussion and Pound Cakes, a Random and Happy Tuesday

(Because some people like Blogger and some like WordPress, i am putting the same content at both.  If you would prefer to read this on the other site, it is linked here.)

It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus.

For as many years as he has been alive and could write, Grandpa has always kept a notepad and pen with him at all times, and he writes everything down.  He never misses a trick.  It's something i could never quite get the hang of, but this past week i tried again, the newfangled way.  There's a memo feature on my phone, and i've been using it liberally.  Time will tell if it helps or if it just becomes so full of memos that i lose everything again.

Since i brush my teeth and comb my hair in the kitchen in the mornings, i almost never bother to look in a mirror.  The other day, while cleaning a mirror, i actually stopped and looked at something that i could not believe.  A zit, a very tiny one, right on the tip of my nose.  My only thought was, what does my body think it is, 13 again?

Ms. SE, an every other Thursday client, texted me last week to ask if i was interested in taking on more work.  She knew someone in her neighborhood who is looking for a cleaning person.  As a joke, i brought it up to Sweetie and he said, "It makes my back hurt just thinking about it!" as he glared at me.

While i had to regretfully turn her down because i have 16 clients right now and no time, it was nice to know that she is satisfied with my work and thinks of me first when others ask.

Sweetie has been in rare form on losing things lately.  He has always been absent minded about just putting things down and then not remembering where those things are.  The other day, he was in a panic over his glasses again, and swore they were not out in his man cave.  After checking the usual other places, i went out there anyway and found them within three seconds right on top of the mini-fridge.  Bless his little cotton socks, he can lose anything, anywhere.

Speaking of the mini-fridge, i was talking to a friend about appliances and how they just don't last now.  (Her vacuum cleaner had bitten the dust and choked on it and was on the way to the dump after only two years.)  That mini-fridge was given to Sweetie back when he was working by someone who just didn't need it for the office any more.  It was over 25 years old then and is over 45 years old now and still works great as long as you defrost it every few months.

There's been a lot of music in my life lately.  While i can't sing or play, i do enjoy music.  Sweetie sings and plays guitar and piano and drums.  We were listening to the radio the other day when he turned to me and said, "Did you hear the beautiful tremolo in that music?"
Of course i had to answer him that while i might have had a clue had he been pointing out the percussion, i wouldn't know a tremolo if it put on a grass skirt and danced the hula in front of me.  He just doesn't understand that a non-musician doesn't hear what he hears.

A tremolo would have to dress like this and introduce itself for me to know what in the world it was.

Yesterday i was at Ms. JAI's house.  She is 80 years old.  The following is a conversation we had:

Ms. JAI:  My next door neighbor has a new tenant in the apartment behind the house, and he's 82!  I wish he would introduce us.

me:  You need to go introduce yourself.  Just bake a plate of cookies and take them over there and welcome him to the neighborhood.

Ms. JAI:  That's a great idea except that I don't bake.

me:  So go buy some cookies from the bakery, put them on a nice little plastic decorative plate, cover them with wrap, and bring them over.  He doesn't have to know you didn't make them, and i won't kiss and tell!

About ten minutes later, Ms. JAI:  I just remembered, I have some pound cake in the freezer, I think I'll slice it and arrange it and bring it over there.

me:  That's the ticket!

And she did!

  1. It is a good thing to be able to turn down work.

That picture of the lady who can't find her BG Panties is actually a young lady sneezing. I know this picture as she is an uncanny doppelganger of my Mrs. C. Friends see this picture and are freaked out!

  7. That is a sweet story about Ms. Jai. :) In your Sweetie's defense, it is tough to find your glasses without glasses on- I have to help my hubby find his all the time. :)

  8. Mimi,

Ms JAI sounds cute. I hope she and her new neighbor hit it off well. I'd have to say elderly people who are single get lonely. I just can't imagine what that's like and I really don't want to but I know it's a part of reality. I hear you about appliances. They don't make anything anymore to run for decades. It's just a use and toss society. Manufacturers know this and it's a great way to keep lining their pockets. I hope Sweetie's mini fridge keeps running!

Love your convo with Ms. JAI - now I'm wanting to hear the rest of the story...how'd her introduction go? :)
