Thankful if We Don't Need It (Ten Things of Thankful)

(Because some people like Blogger and some like WordPress, i am putting the same content at both.  If you would prefer to read this on the other site, it is linked here.)

***********************************

This week i came up with the craziest idea for a thankful list!  It's okay if you think i'm nuts for this one, after all, i know i am not "all there."  What's that saying about being in your own little world, but it's okay because everyone there knows you?

Anyway, i decided to list some of the things which i am thankful we have and that i hope we don't ever have to use.

What?

Yes.

Such as, i am thankful we have a generator (even in its current state of needing to be turned on manually until it can be fixed), and i hope we don't ever have to use it.

The spare candles in the bottom of the cabinet, i'm thankful we have them and hope we don't ever have to use them due to the power being out and the generator not working.

The first aid kit.

Spare tires on the cars.

MREs.  (They give them out after hurricanes, and if you have any left over, you save them for the next time.)  Bottled water saved for the same emergencies that would make you need the MREs.

Extended warranties on appliances.

Insurance on our phones in case they are broken, lost or stolen.

Insurance on the cars, too.  After all, you don't ever want to use that, but you are sure thankful you have it if you need it.  Homeowners insurance, ditto.

Health insurance comes to mind as well.  As does the long term care insurance policy.

Even insurance on us.  No one wants their life insurance cashed in, but for those left behind, it's what can keep the world from falling further apart.

The last $20 hidden in the "touch it and die" place.  You hope you don't ever have to use it to get gas for getting to work on the last day of the month, but if you absolutely have to, you are sure thankful it is there (and you replace it right away on the first day of the month).

There they are, things i'm thankful i have but i hope i don't ever have to use.  Weird, i know, but if you aren't used to me yet, you never will be.

Please join us and our gracious and wonderful hostess Kristi from ThankfulMe, write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful.

  1. Good idea, good list. I am thankful that when I need that $20 I remember where I hid it.

LOL The 10 things that you wrote down were the everyday things that people should know about if trouble should arise so you are the intelligent individual. Well done my friend. See ya my friend.

  9. Great list. I'm thankful for having my family close by so there's never a way to be lonely. And despite the current political climate, I'm grateful I live in the USA because even now, it's better to live here than in many other places.

  11. "This week i came up with the craziest idea for a thankful list!"

(of course, I realize and endorsement from us over at the Wakefield Doctrine might not exactly be the total stamp of approval one might hope for.... (Wakefield Doctrine TToT post motto: "Put the word, acronym or maybe its just an abbreviation in it and we'll hit 'Publish'")
    ;p
    Liked your list. On target

  12. It's not weird. Lots of people, including me, feel the same way. Because we're self-employed, not only do we have the usual health, dental, auto, life, home, and flood insurance, but in order to work, we also must have business liability, umbrella and workers comp. policies.

When they lived at home, I used to give my daughters $20 "mad money" to keep in their wallets. They asked me why I called it that and said, "Because I'm going to be really mad if you waste it."

  13. No, I don't think you are crazy. What a great reminder. Wonderful thankful list.

  14. Not weird at all. I think that is great list. I was thankful to have a generator and now it is broken and my cheapo hubby won't get it fixed.

  15. I love your list! Yes, we can definitely be thankful for things we hope we never have to use. Preparedness brings peace.

  16. I think each one of us need to remind our own self of the things we should be thankful for...often.

It's so easy fall into the trap of taking things for granted...and the grumbling trap!
