Thankful Things Came In Bunches This Week (Ten Things of Thankful)

***********************************

Are we there yet?  Thankful Day?  Yes!

A big set of thankful things surround Tuesday, when i went for the first part of my annual physical.  First, i have to be fasting, which is easy, and no coffee, which is not easy, so i am thankful for the earliest appointment of the morning.  Second i am thankful they will make you a cup of coffee once they've done the blood tests to help ward off that caffeine headache!

Then i am thankful for vision and hearing screening included, no need for extra appointments.

The staff there know me and are friendly and except for being poked and prodded, it is quite nice to catch up with everyone.

A quick walk downstairs afterward and i was able to set up my mammogram for later in the month, too, i am thankful it can all be under one roof.

Then there was Thursday.  Sweetie's main pair of glasses finally broke.  He has another pair he doesn't like so well (same prescription), but he was wanting to replace the broken one.

He went to the place that sold him the frames, as the lenses, thankfully, were in perfectly good condition, and tried to buy another frame.  They don't make that one any more, there is only one pair left and it's not the same color, and it costs $300 plus sales tax.  Ouch.

He went to another optical shop, and we are so thankful for several things.  They went out of their way to find a good frame, the lady knew how to buff the edges of the lenses herself to get them to fit (no need to send them off for the work!) and the third and best thankful, with tax, $110.  Wonderful.

Later that day, i was thankfully able to finish paying off the last of Bigger Girl's car repairs (the car that now belongs to #1 Son), and pay a little bit on Lunceford the Land Yacht.  One down, one to go.

Friday evening, we had a new volunteer at the shelter.  A mom came in with her teen son, he wants to be a regular volunteer so he can spend time with the cats!  He's a smart one, and helped me with the cages, so i got done a bit earlier.  We are always thankful for volunteers.

Also, while i was there, a nice man knocked at the door, and when i opened it, he said, "I'm here to donate some money, who can take it for me?"

Taking him to the front desk, where one of the paid staff was sitting, he handed her $120, said he did not need a receipt, and walked out!  Wow.  Yes, we are always thankful for cash.

Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Kristi and her co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.

  3. I would have been very thankful if I'd won the Lotto tonight..."would have been" being the operative words :)

I'd be very thankful if all nastiness and negativity disappeared from the world. Both are spreading faster and more far afield than any pandemic. Both are extremely contagious.

    Have good weekend, messymimi. :)

  10. good list (loved the anonymous donor Grat Item)
...I can identify with the eye glasses 'problem'... I have a pair that, for reasons I'll never understand, I prefer over all other glasses (a drawer full of drugstore glasses and one pair of 'real' glasses, from the optometrist, which I wear at work but leave my vision blurring when I take them off....
    where was I? lol
the ones I like? They don't really fit and tend to slide off my face a lot... and... and yet! I still insist on wearing them
    yeah, I've heard the definition

    have an excellent week

  11. I am trying to be better organized. This project and that project and all the rest have taken so much time away from what I love, blogging. I love that guy who gave you money for the pets! YAY! What a nice surprise and blessing too. HUGS and LOVED

  12. It is interesting to me how the same prescription for glasses when filled at two different places don't produce the same product. Unfortunately one pair of trifocals is bothersome enough that I rarely wear them. They were cheaper than the ones filled at the ophthalmologist's where I usually get my glasses. I had wanted a second pair just in case something were to happen to the first pair when traveling. I even took them back thinking there had been a mistake, but was told they matched the prescription I gave them. It was basically my word against theirs. :/
There are some people who love animals but are unable to have a cat where they live, so being able to help out at an animal shelter is a real blessing to them. Win/win!
Such a good feeling and a big thankful to be able to pay off a big debt.
    Have a great week, Mimi.

  13. A lovely week! Glad you found a better price on glass frames. I had to use some sunglass frames for a long time due to lack of funds. The lenses didn't exactly fit but they served the purpose. Thankfully there was a lady at the State fairgrounds flea market with an optical booth. $30 later I had nice frames.

  14. You have some really awesome thankful’s here, Mimi! Getting all the dreaded annual physical stuff taken care of, and everything under one roof is such a nice relief! I know the hassle of new glasses in the expense involved, mine are trifocals so extra pricey. But we do have found that if you shop around you can do much better than at the optical shop. I’m delighted you were able to find a pair for him at a reasonable price. Getting bills paid off always feels good to, it’s kind of a juggling act to stay on top of them I know, but somehow by God’s grace we always seem to manage. I love young man who came to volunteer at the shelter, he obviously has a heart for animals, and also the man who anonymously donated money. We need more like those two in the world for sure!
