Random Tuesday Rambles

Stacy Uncorked

And now, a bit of random news from around here, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked.

The kittens were not quite big enough to go get spayed last Thursday, so they are on the docket for this Friday.  Lily, the black and white, was two ounces shy of two pounds, and Dahlia was 4 ounces shy.  They've been getting a lot of canned food since their weigh-in last Wednesday, and will be weighed again tomorrow.  If they can't gain that much in a week, something is wrong.

Once spayed, as soon as a cage is open at the shelter, off they go, to be adopted to forever homes.  It's always a joy to raise them, and it's a joy to see them bring smiles to a new family.

In crazy stuff my kids do, the other day #1 Son said to me, "Mom, we put Nat in the dumpster today!"

Why on earth would you do that? i asked.

"Well, you know how he takes lessons at the martial arts studio across the street from the restaurant?  He's been telling us for years that he's a martial artist and he's going to show us what he can do, and I keep telling him I'm going to put him in the dumpster.

"So today, he was trying to play fight me using his 'martial arts,' and I looked at Chuck and said, 'Let's do this, I've got the arms' and Chuck knew just what I meant.  I grabbed him around the arms and pinned him, and Chuck picked up his legs, and we dropped him feet first into the brand new dumpster we got yesterday.  It didn't hurt him any, he didn't even get dirty, but I don't think he's going to brag about being a martial artist any more."

It sounds like you have a crazy workplace, i noted.

"It's fun, we all like each other."

Speaking of work, Ms. S has me cleaning out her food cabinets.  She is not happy with how many items i am throwing away.

"Don't you think that might still be good?" she asks.

Ms. S, a few hints.  If it's so old it has no expiration date, it's not still good.  If it expired more than six months ago (and most assuredly if it expired back in 1999), it is not still good.  If it has an old fashioned price tag on it, put on there the way price tags used to be, one at a time with the little hand held machine, it's not still good.

If it is no longer the color that particular stuff is supposed to be (like brown ranch dressing) or the can is bulging, it's not still good.

By the time i'm done, she will have only currently edible food in her cabinets.

  2. Ms. S sounds very much like my hubby's elderly cousin sister. We used to try to clear her refrigerator, most of the food were expired and some even got moldy. Have a beautiful day!

  4. I see today is sneak zucchini onto your neighbor's porch day, I think I will do that :)
That is a funny dumpster story. It amazes me how they can fix kittens when they are so young and tiny. Sounds like your client's cupboards definitely needed a cleaning. :)

  5. I'm glad you're doing that for Mrs. S. Nothing worse than getting very sick eating something that went bad long ago. Some people tend to buy too much of stuff. We do the same and hubby usually eats the outdated stuff. I won't do that.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺
