Random Tuesday: Superstitions, Drunk Flies, and Work

Stacy Uncorked

And now, a bit of random news from around here, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked.

Ms. V and her family, and Mr. BA and Ms. GA, both went on vacation.  Every year, both go on vacation in August.  Every year, there is a Major Event.  Last year, it was The Great Flood of 2016.  This year, it was Harvey.  Next year, i've told them, they may not vacation during hurricane season!

No, i am not really superstitious, it's still not worth taking the risk.

Little Girl and Alston have decided that the middle of the library floor is a great place to put together a one thousand piece puzzle.  Somehow i have the feeling they will regret it sooner or later, especially since Buff and Pepe are spending more time here.

Bigger Girl was out for dinner with friends the other night and had a glass of wine.  After a few minutes, she noticed a fly in it.  Using a spoon, she rescued it, putting it on a napkin.  Once it dried out, it staggered around -- it was drunk!  She said it was very funny watching a drunk fly.

Brother-in-Law, The Mouth, has been collecting all the pennies that end up in his pockets for a long time, and decided he wanted them rolled.  Of course, he didn't want to have to do it.  Sweetie, being helpful, volunteered me to do it.

Ms. V's son has a machine, and i borrowed it while they were out of town.  It cost us $5 to buy the coin wrappers for $25 in pennies.  Somehow, i don't think it was worth saving them all that time.

Labor Day was good, i labored.  Ms. S has gotten everything straightened out so i can continue to work for her.  She had a contractor come over and patch her ceilings a couple of weeks ago.  He was coveting one of her small antique phones, so she gave it to him in exchange for painting the bathroom ceiling, which was not on the original to-do list.  He came back and did that Saturday (i'm guessing so he'd have everything he'd promised to do finished and be able to take Labor Day without worry).  That meant i put the bathroom back together after a thorough cleaning.

Sweetie labored, too.  The Big Boss asked him to do some work that will last 4-5 hours a day for about 3 days.  They are moving the baseball card collection.  The Big Boss is also talking about Sweetie going out to the farm so he can help clear the paths to the deer stands.  He's ready to do something besides help me with houses, and i'm glad this came along.

Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone!

  1. A drunk fly- that is too funny. I am glad your husband got some extra work to do. Our local banks will give coin holders for free. There are also machines in the grocery store where you just pour the coins out and they do all the counting. If you deposit the money into the bank that owns the machine, there is no charge, otherwise there is a small fee.

  2. I totally believe you on the superstition thing, they simply have to change when they vacation.

The drunk fly I bet that was something to see ha ha

  3. We always take into account Hurricane season when we make plans, sometimes you just have to hope to be lucky.

  4. We save flies too. It's the right thing to do. It is fun to watch them though.

You had a busy weekend didn't you. You always seem to be working.

Your husband volunteered you? Really now.

    Have a fabulous day. ☺

  5. How are you doing dealing with the Hurricane? I hope that it didn't affect you to much. I worry about my friends in that area. Take care MImi. See ya.

  6. Your mention of the Jerry Lewis telethon really brought back memories. Did Harvey hit where you are? I hope not. But it sounds like you've been busy! Rolling pennies? Ummm... no. Do you not have coin star? You don't have to roll your change and it cost less than the wrappers.

  8. I'd have asked for another glass of wine and wouldn't have paid for the one with a fly in it.

  9. I'm not superstitious about hurricanes because, it doesn't matter what I think, they have a mind of their own.

Your daughter's drunken fly story is way funnier than my organic chemistry lab story where we hit a wasp with chloroform and watched it sleep.

My youngest rolls all our spare change but her price is high... yes, she keeps it all. Her response is "Bwa ha ha."

I hear you. The work never ends, does it, but I know from experience that it's better to have work than not.

Hope you and yours have weathered Harvey. I'm hoping not, but it's looking like me and mine are fixing to go up against Irma. God help us all.
