Weeding (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Not Lonely (Sammy's Poetry Day), and Brian's Thankful Thursday

***********************************

"I swear, this plant is going to be the death of me!" she growled under her breath, yanking up yet another weed by the roots.

"It's not enough that I have them in my yard, but every time I pull all of them up, the seeds from the ones the neighbors are neglecting blow over here and I end up with even more of them," she continued to mutter, then, "ouch!" she yelled, as she tried to get up and twisted her ankle.

The new neighbor heard her yell and actually took the time to come over and ask, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, just trying to get ahead of these weeds," she said, as she knew she hadn't really hurt anything, she was just upset with the situation.

"I've noticed I have them, too, and I need to do something about it; how about let me get in and change my clothes, and you can come over and show me how to deal with them."

"I'd be glad to," she smiled, as those words were music to her ears.

Gosia at Looking for Identity has taken over Good Fences, and it's now Good Fences Around The World.  Post a picture of a fence or gate, link back to her blog, and go visit other blogs to see what interesting fences there are out in this big world.

While these fence photos were taken back around Christmas, the pink flamingo is the symbol of Mardi Gras here, and so:

If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales.
If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.
Albert Einstein

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day This week's image and my poem:

All the way out here in Lost Springs,
People say it's lonely, but my heart sings!
I come to visit here, to be all alone,
So I can get away from the blasted telephone!

Brian of Brian's Home hosts the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop.   It's time to share something for which i am thankful.

Today i am thankful for having my bank on my side in an ongoing dispute with Avis, the rental car people.  They have overcharged us, the first time double what we owed, the second time triple, resulting in an overdraft.  The bank, upon us producing the receipt of what we actually owed, gave us back the overdraft fee, and i am thankful.  We’ll be even more thankful when Avis refunds what they took from us so we can pay the bills, and the bank has promised to dispute it on our behalf if they don’t do it soon.

  8. Tennesee Ernie Ford day! What wonderful memories from my childhood listening to him with mom and dad. Also, great six. I hate gardening. The getting UP and down is for the younger birds!

  9. Yikes on Avis. That's not nice at all. I hope it gets resolved and soon.

Love your poem. I laughed out loud.

Your story was adorable. Helping get rid of those weeks is a group effort. Finally.

I love flamingos. I have many pink flamingos here and didn't know they were a symbol of Mardi Gras. Fun.

Have a fabulous Thankful Thursday, my friend. Big hug. ♥

  10. We have that problem with dandylions. Always someone that just lets the grow and seed the neighborhood. Of course it turns out the bees love dandylions so maybe they are best left alone. I'd rather have the bees than a perfect lawn.

  18. While the idea behind BreakUp Day may be morally sound, that is some seriously cold timing!

  19. Love the Albert Einstein quote. Lost Springs looks like a peaceful hideaway, but I don't think I could live there.

  20. LOL Not so sure how well that will work as a preventative for her weeds but hey, can't hurt! Weeds are the most irksome, pesky things.

I remember once reading about the smallest towns in America and while the population was more than 1, I couldn't believe there are still towns with under a 1,000 people living in them. Cut poem :)

That's a good bank! Note to self...don't rent from Avis :D

  23. Weeds can be a menace, for sure. This is probably why I never took up gardening. Nice six.
