Random Thankfulness (Ten Things of Thankful)

***********************************

Some weeks i slam into Thankful Day like the kid at the skating rink whose only way to stop is to run into the walls.  Other weeks, it creeps up and is suddenly there.  Still others, i have been taking notes all week and am rightly prepared.

This week i am woefully unprepared.  No notes.  Few pictures.  Work got crazy and crazier, and blog reading got behinder and behinder.

There may be lack of coffee involved.

No matter, there are thankful things, and they do deserve to be totted up.  Not to be hogtied and thrust out as a token offering, but savored and enjoyed, because gratitude grows with the sharing.

Monday was a most excellent day, Dr. D was out of town, so i took her stuff to the laundromat and got the place ready for her return, no stress, no trauma.

The shelter is allowing us to come on Wednesday mornings again.  It's so good to be back, and there are kittens!

Speaking of felines, ours are seeming to be at peace with each other right now, at least mostly.  It's really nice to wake up in the morning and realize there was no cat fight in the bedroom the night before.

Mr. BA may very well be amenable to me coming on Friday afternoons instead of Saturday mornings (as i did yesterday, giving me today off!), which would mean i could start going to Grandma's every weekend and she wouldn't have to worry about whether or not her other housekeeper will be coming back.  Having possibilities like this open up is a thankful thing to me, i keeps me trying to improve my scheduling.

Ms. S is recovered from her carotid artery surgery, and allowed me to throw away all of the dried up food in the fridge as well as do some laundry and some cleaning.  She's afraid we will get in trouble for me coming over since they are not supposed to be having visitors (it's an apartment in a senior living center that has a built in assisted living center and nursing  home).  As i pointed out, other people are having their own housekeepers come, so she can, too.  So far, everyone i have passed driving in just smiles and waves, so i will keep going.

While we are in Phase 1 of reopening, the traffic has not, as i was afraid might happen, gone straight back to deadlocked most of the time most days.  It's a lot heavier than it was when the stay at home started, but it is nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

#1 Son, even though he is young and mostly healthy, has had a health scare since the episode with the seizure last year.  his doctor is now sure he's fine, though, and good health news is a big thankful.

The stores have plenty of toilet paper and paper towels.  You still can't find most cleaning products on a regular basis so everyone stocks up if it shows up, but things are more normal than they were a few weeks ago.

Sweetie broke a string on a guitar.  He can change strings, and has done so, but doesn't like to, and is not that great at it, so he always had his friend Ed at the guitar shop do it.  Sweetie has done so many favors for Ed that Ed strings up his guitars for free, just bring the strings.  Of course, those shops are still closed.  Not only am i thankful Ed let Sweetie come out to his house so that i don't have to hear the lamenting about having a guitar out of action, i am thankful Ed had a new replacement string and just put that one on, instead of taking all of them off.  The set was almost brand new, and this saves an expensive set for later when the whole group of them get old and in need of changing.

This is where i could, if i wanted, invoke Clark and the Secret Rule about how the almost completion of a thing is, in itself, an item, but instead i will say i am thankful for all of my online friends!

  3. That certainly is a lot to be thankful for, especially the no cat fight night and getting to see new kittens again. Rescheduling in your favour is always a plus.

  4. Thank you for gratitude lists, they also serve to remind me how much I have to be grateful for. THANKS!

  7. Oh, I loved your introduction to your list! You eloquently expressed what it is like some weeks.
Good health news is the best kind of news!

  8. So glad you are having some peaceful nights with no cat fights at night. That is sound one doesn't forget, and worse yet to wake up to the sound of it.
I am glad you son is doing okay.
We haven't made it to Phase 1 yet, but some of the counties around us have. It can be a test for honesty for some I think. (We are not supposed to travel to the counties which have opened up to do some of those things we cannot do here.) It will be interesting to see how strictly people follow those guidelines.

  10. What a great thankful post. Of course, for me, your son getting a clean bill of health tops the list. Staying healthy is so important, especially now. - I love that Spaghetti-O's have their own day! They should. I still like to eat them every now and again.

  11. lol
...yeah, we're seeing the return of traffic to our area.
...odd how shortages seem to vary from area to area, here limited paper products, not limit on cleaning supplies

...sounds awful, but wasn't it fun, in the early days, being, like the only car on an otherwise giant road, for minutes at a time?

don't tell anyone I said that
    ...lol
    have a good week.

  12. Mama lives in a similar retirement home situation. Housekeeping comes in weekly and I figure they don't live there and take precautions so all is well. Not any different than what you do. It's so important for them to have this care. They're very strict and yet they know and understand proper care. Mama is faring well.

  14. Good news about #1 son. That must be a relief.
My daughter is always begging me to foster a mama cat and her kittens from our shelter, but I (a) don't want to have another cat in the house, even sequestered, since we have three cats and (b) fear being a foster fail and keeping all of them becaause we already have three cats!
