Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

Elephant's Child is supplying the words this month.

This week's prompts are:

  • gentle
  • organic
  • standards
  • odour
  • moisture

And/or

  •  20 years
  • noses
  • pregnant
  • gloves
  • high

Charlotte (MotherOwl)  has selected Missing Green as the colour of the month.

Our house was PREGNANT with HIGH expectations yesterday morning.

For over 20 YEARS we've sat on tenterhooks on Tax Day, waiting for the packet to arrive from the accountant.

We'd been told the packet was scheduled by the delivery company to be dropped off between 9-11am, and my Sweetie sat on the front porch to make sure we wouldn't miss it, or worse, have it stolen.

While he did that, i was caring for the baby.

She inhaled most of a banana and then an ORGANIC strawberry, the first one grown by her mama in the fledgling garden outside.  My daughter-in-law is doing it right, monitoring the MOISTURE and soil conditions very closely, her grandmother taught her gardening and had very high STANDARDS.

The ODOUR of the strawberry was delightful, the berry itself a beautiful red and the leaves very close to Missing Green.  Little Annie seemed to like strawberry, and will probably be getting most of the first crop as they come in.

Around 2pm we called the accountant's office and the assistant was apparently working hard to figure out what was up.  The delivery company told her they reserved the right to "file an exemption" and deliver any time they wanted, even on guaranteed packages, and they'd claimed it on all of our accountant's packets.  It might arrive that day, might not, sorry, you get it when you get it.

To say my Sweetie was angry was putting it mildly.  He could have put on boxing GLOVES and punched a few NOSES.  The Internal Revenue Service is not a GENTLE organization known for its understanding in situations like this.  The accountant was going to file an automatic extension for all clients who didn't get the packets and if you didn't owe any money that day, it would be just fine.

We didn't owe, and they probably did file the extension even though the packet arrived around 5:30pm.  We signed the paper and took a picture of it with our signatures on it, then emailed it back.  All they have to have is the picture to prove we authorized filing, so all is well.  It will get filed and the 2024 tax year is in the books for us.

  3. As if tax season isn't irritating enough. Glad it looks like you've got it as a done deal. Boy that piece of artwork is kind of interesting.

  5. Love those teeth. Cool.

What a day Sweetie had. We file our taxes after the first of the month and always have to pay. We don't want them messing with us. They aren't very friendly at all.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥

  8. I love the dog sculpture. I don't love tax season.

  9. That is incredibly poor service and attitude from the accountant. He/she should be held accountable for any payments due by those who actually owe something. That made for a very stressful day.

We wish we could grow strawberries here. Our Dad loves strawberries and the ones from the store may look good, but they are terrible.

  10. I like that dog sculpture too. That's some delivery service and pretty poor to guarantee any old time instead of on time.

  11. Great story. How sweet that Annie is enjoying her mom's garden already. I am mad at our accountant- we sent our stuff in a month ago and still don't have it back. My hubby called them yesterday to find out what was going on and we owed a little which they weren't going to tell us until it was late. I ended up going online and paying it. XO

  13. That sculpture surely was surprising. So glad that package finally did arrive -- I would have been sweating that out!

  14. In that situation I would be ready to punch a few noses too! Bad enough with regular mail, but something as important as taxes should never be held up.
Annie has a good grip on that spoon. Soon she will be saying "I do it!"
