Some Need a Harder Lesson (Six Sentence Story)

 ***********************************

Our client Mr. DE's father and several other people in his neighborhood were the victims of some vandalism recently when three teen brothers stood in an alley behind the homes and threw rocks, breaking windows in several of the houses.

Mr. DE's father is a deeply committed Christian and set the tone for how to deal with this situation; he has cameras outside his home and caught them on video, they were tracked down, and he offered to meet with them and their grandfather who is raising them.

Two of the young men came with the grandfather, the third refused to be part of the meeting but his grandfather insisted on calling him so he could hear the whole conversation.

Mr. SE's father was very calm and kind, and talked to them about Jesus, about forgiveness, and about the responsibility to own up when you've done wrong and try to make it right.

The two boys who were there listened respectfully, apologized for their role and gave him what money they'd been saving up for other things they wanted, he accepted their apologies and the money and told them what they'd given was more than enough, even though it wouldn't come close to paying fully for the damage.

Then with the grandfather's permission, by phone he told the third young man he would be sued in court; both he and the grandfather agree the young man will, unfortunately, need a harder lesson.

  1. Excellent six sentences and I am glad things worked out with two of the boys. I know it wouldn't happen here, the young boys might get found and arrested but then put on a "good behaviour bond" and sent home where the bond is too often ignored and the kids just keep on with their rampaging ways. I see such things on the news here almost every night.

  2. What a story. Well written and well towed in six short sentences. I can't imagine what I would do if any person did that kind of Destruction to my home.

  6. That's a lesson learned the hard way.

  7. Good story! It's good the grandfather was also reasonable; too often parents (guardians) don't go along with a lesson or punishment warranted by a child's behavior.
