Last week’s post was a respite from my usual, but i hit the ground running this week and am breezing through Thankful Day quickly heading from one place to the next.
My Saturday at Grandma and Grandpa’s was quite good, we were all thankful everything went pretty smoothly.
Then came Sunday. The morning was different as our church has only one service each week during summer with so many people out of town and busy it’s easier this way. It makes for a later start time and Mr. Cal is thankful for a slightly longer walk since we aren’t in a rush.
It’s not as lost as last summer, he’s feeling his age now, but we’re thankful he is as enthusiastic about his walks as ever even if he can’t go as fast or as far.
Becca and i were thankful for time to play board games before leaving for the service.
I’m thankful i was home and not otherwise occupied that afternoon when Daughter-in-Law’s diverticulitis flared up badly again. I was able to immediately take charge of our little Annie and #2 Son was able to get her to the ER very quickly.
We’re all thankful she shows improvement although she needed more meds and they got home in time to put little Annie down for the night themselves instead of my having to do it.
Monday morning saw the usual work at Carl’s, maybe a bit more than usual as i left work a bit later and thought i had time to stop at the Mall-Mart to get a few things. I breezed through and was at the self-checkout when it happened, my driver’s license fell out of my wallet and right into the slot in the machine where you would put paper coupons to redeem them.
Ugh!
I was very thankful the overworked and probably often under-appreciated manager. as soon as he was able to get off a register he was tending, came and opened the machine and fished it out for me.
This made me a bit late for Ms. D, but she did not care, thankfully, she is fine with whatever time i come.
When done, i was thankful to get home in one piece.
Again there was time with my little girl Tuesday, it’s always a gift.
Tuesday evening Bible study is like a cherry on top.
The shelter was the usual rush as there are now so many cats and kittens up for adoption, i’m thankful i got it all and still got to Ms. G’s on time.
She and i are both thankful we successfully got Patience the camper back to her house.
That evening we got a call from Brother-in-Law, he had a flat tire. We were all thankful our friend Mr. J, the one who sometimes lends us a truck, was able to meet up with my Sweetie and Brother-in-Law and between the three of them they got the tire changed and the car over to Kevin and Lenny’s just before they closed.
Brother-in-Law is thankful for a flexible work schedule and lots of leave saved up as he simply took the next day off and my Sweetie drove him home.
Since our Thursday would be swamped we were thankful Kevin and Lenny have a driver who does noting but run errands, including pick people up when their cars are ready and bring them to the shop so Brother-in-Law was able to get his car without us having to cram in another errand on an already full day.
Because of her ongoing medical problems, Daughter-in-Law needs more help with child care and i’m thankful i’ve worked out a new schedule. Instead of cleaning Ms. GA and Mr. BA’s house every single Friday, Sweetie and i will do it every other Thursday after Ms. SE.
While it’s not ideal, and it means a small pay cut, i’m thankful there was a way to make it work. Sweetie and i were both thankful there was almost no traffic this past Thursday (it was bizarre) and because Ms. SE’s boys have been out of town the whole summer at camps and visiting grandparents, we were thankful the cleaning was one of the easiest ever at their house.
I’m also thankful Ms. SE, who had just flown into town from work meetings that morning, was able to pull into the driveway as we were packing the car and write us a check. (Yes, their life is as crazy as ours, with two dogs added and Mr. DE had to leave town that morning to go be with his ailing father.)
Ms. GA’s house was as always but i’m very thankful they have a plethora of umbrellas as it was storming fit to beat the band when we were leaving and they are generous in letting people use said umbrellas (especially as my Sweetie never remembers to put his back in the car if he has to use it to come inside).
Yesterday was the first time for the new schedule of going to prayer meeting, doing my weekly shopping, and then going to babysit. I’m thankful it worked out well.
I’m also thankful i finally remembered — one hour before they close early on Fridays! — to call the surgery place and remind them of my temporary phone number change and they were able to give me new information for my cataract surgery scheduled this coming Monday.
The cat shelter last night had plenty of volunteer help, which was great as they are short on staff again. I'm thankful it all worked out and even some extras got done.
This weekend is scheduled to be a doozy and next week will be the surgical report, i’m thankful, though, i only have to get through one day, one hour at a time.
Please write up your own list and link up to Ten Things of Thankful, where Clark and his co-hosts always have a warm welcome waiting.
