It's time once again for a random and happy Tuesday, linking up with Stacy's Random Thoughts at Stacy Uncorked and Sandee at Comedy Plus.
Last week was a hard one on Carl.
He had to work early and long, but this week he's back to only 3 hours each day and was heading to his sleep chair to take advantage of it. He stopped, of course, to start trying to straighten things with, "Con't want you to fall over it..." and i shooed him off to sleep, telling him as i always do it's my job to clean and tidy once i show up.
Then he added, "Don't want to oversleep..."
What time do you want to be up? i asked and when he told me, i promised to poke him at the time appointed.
He'd left me a good job of the place this week.
I believe i found a record number of hangers in the bed, at least a dozen. It's no wonder one was broken.
The trail of empty coin rolls and the change all over everywhere led me to the coin sorter, which was jammed. A screwdriver and a few minutes work got it working again and all the changed sorted. This is why i claim my job description is anything legal you can teach me to do.
He didn't actually need to be poked and the bathroom was ready for him when he got up and i led him straight in there, showed him what clothes were in there and he approved them, and i left him to it.
He came out talking about how "the place has racquetball and a pool, and all I have to do it get the card activated..."
Eventually i realized he was talking about a fitness place again. His work gets employees a group discount at a particular place to try to get all of them to take fitness more seriously, and he's been trying to work out how to join for a few weeks now. Everything is a bit harder for him, but i think he's finally gotten it down.
As he headed for the main kitchen he stopped to grab some new checks for his checkbook -- no, i don't know why his new checks were all stashed behind the TV, but they are in the proper drawer now -- and said, "I don't think I have enough change to buy much, do I?"
Actually, i told him, i fixed your coin sorter and you have $29.50 right here already rolled. If you take it to the bank, they will give you cash.
He grabbed a plastic garbage bag and we put the coins in it and i made him take it out to the car that very minute. Whether he will make it to the bank or not before i get there next is anyone's guess.
Coming back in he was talking about his birthday, which comes up next month.
"I need to make plans for a party, and for what to do if it rains. I want to have a party at the beach club...I think...but maybe the pool place instead, I'd have to reserve a room because sometimes they have people there drinking..."
There's really no "beach" here, but there is a lake with an area called the beach, and it's run by the parks commission. There are also pools at different parks and you can reserve space for parties. He'll work something out, or he'll wing it at the last minute and either way, he'll have fun.
I followed him a few minutes later to the kitchen so i could make his lunch and found him already hard at it. I asked what he was doing and he said, "Making sandwiches for the week," while his breakfast sandwich cooked and his cereal got soggy.
He actually only made one sandwich, one slice of white bread, one slice of wheat hummus and sharp cheddar cheese. I don't ask, i just put it in the ice chest along with all the other stuff i gather.
"Anything at church?" he asked, as he always does. I told him it was the week the high school youth group goes on retreat. He just nodded.
When next i went in there, he was laughing uproariously (for him) over the news about the opening of a time capsule in Nebraska.
"They put in a car wrapped in plastic wrap!" he said, delighting in all the sights of items packed away 50 years ago and recently opened.
As we got closer to time for him to leave, he was doing his usual dashing around looking for things.
"Gas pills?"
All i can find is Beano.
"Neck bands?"
I packed an ice vest, i told him.
"Neck bands!" he said, heading for the other freezer to get the frozen strips you put in a wrap and put around your neck to keep cool.
He was heading out the door with just the frozen inserts and no neck band when i ran it out to him, along with his hat and a bottle of water. Putting the latter and the neck band inserts in his ice chest, i found this.
The umbrella is a new one on me, I've never seen him carry one, although it does not surprise me his would be inside out, but all i've ever seen him with is raincoats. The list of 100 things to do he grabbed and read one.
"Visit a nursing home.." he said.
I told him the residents would love to have visitors.
"I haven't done splash pads yet this summer..."
He said and left.
His latest reminder he's just a big kid:
Kids sunglasses and a yoyo. What's not to love.
How about some funnies.
Have a blessed and beautiful Tuesday, everyone!

ReplyDeleteGreat funnies. God bless.
ReplyDeleteTough times for Carl. Hanges in bed sounds singularly uncomfortable - I'd throw them all to the floor very fast ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the funnies.
Yikes, Mom recognizes that paper cutter, it was seriously dangerous but as kids in school we used it, no problem. Poor Carl, so many issues but one can only help him so much. He seems happy and that is most important.
ReplyDeleteI got tickled with the splash pad. That would be kinda fun if I weren't afraid of breaking something which wouldn't be fun at all. The guillotine meme is good. I remember using one of those and it intimidated me a bit so I was extra careful. It's interesting that I never heard about any incidents with anyone using this horrible cutting device. Safety is a good thing. Just thought, maybe, we're smothering kids today with too much of it. lol Have a giggletastic day, darlin'!
ReplyDeleteThe mushroom substitution was TOO FUNNY!!
ReplyDeleteCarl keeps one busy and that is you ~ an angel ~ hugs ~
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Carl is so precious. I would love to meet him. I don't know how you have the energy to clean all that mess though. I would be worn out. You're a jewel and so is he.
ReplyDeleteLove all the funnies and the best one is the mushroom one. I spewed my coffee.
Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs, my friend. ♥

I love blogs about Carl. I look forward to them every week. Enjoyed all the info too..aways do.
ReplyDeleteWell, it looks like long work days and ones that start early may not be the best for Carl. We hope it figures out how to get working out at that club and most especially we hope he has a happy birthday party.
ReplyDeleteWoos - Misty and Timber
I think Carl would be well received at the nursing home. Those are good funnies!
ReplyDeleteWalking in and seeing those first 2 photos would have me quitting. :)
ReplyDeleteYou sure have your work cut out for you. Great funnies.
ReplyDeletemushrooms, ha ha. In my school only the grade seven kids were allowed to use the Guillotine which was kept in the small room by the principal's office.
