Because i was walking with Becca and Mr. Cal, i was not able to take as many pictures as i wanted or quite the angles i wanted, but i've made do.
As we walked, looking ahead i thought i saw, could it be, a turtle?

He made it, but Becca was rushing ahead and Mr. Cal tugging at the leash, so i didn't get any photos of him making excellent progress in the grass toward the pond behind the houses.

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border. Charlotte/Mother Owl and i are keeping it going while she takes a blog break, we hope temporarily. Anyone else is welcome to join in the fun, just let us know!
This week the theme is Quiet. h
"I want a piece of quiet!"
she heard her daughter say,
and at first she simply chuckled,
at the child putting it this way.
Then she thought much further,
and saw it would be nice
if "quiet" were an actual item
and you could order up a slice.
She'd order quiet moments
with which to start the day
and then a few more in the evening
before time to hit the hay.
Instead of a crying baby,
get a slice of quiet giggle and coo,
instead of screaming toddler,
a quiet game of peek-a-boo.
For the endlessly arguing siblings
a quiet board game or three,
for teen and pre-teen drama,
a quiet talk to help them clearly see.
We all need a "piece of quiet"
to get us through our life,
let's strive for a "piece of quiet,"
to ease our daily strife.

I have not been fortunate enough to see a box turtle for years. I see lots of paint turtles in ponds. So glad this one made it across the road unassisted. They say if you try to move one, always put it in exactly the direction you found it headed. Or it simply won't turn around and go back the way it was headed even if it means crossing the road again.
ReplyDeleteWe hounds are all scared of turtles, we find them creepy how they disappear inside their shells. Nice that it made it across that big street.

ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely poem about quiet with lots of good suggestins for its readers. Mom thinks silence is the bet way to handle things when you can't find anythiing good to reply. And we sure hope that Mr Turtle found a better way back to where he came from so he doesn't have to cross the street again.

ReplyDeleteMy house is filled with quiet, right up until I go to bed, then the neighbours start up their fighting or their karaoke machine and the one upstairs decides that is a god time to be mopping her floors and putting things away with much opening and closing of drawers. I've learned to fall asleep in spite of that.

ReplyDeleteI'm missing a slipper, so if you ever find that raincoat, let me know and I'll look in the same place here. I might get lucky and find my slipper. I have since bought new slippers, but I'd love to have the old one back.

I haven't seen a turtle on or near the road or any place for that matter in a long time. You did good capturing his progress. The poor things move so slow. :)
