Some people are a breed apart and my client and friend Ms. G is one of them.
For many years she dreamed of having a camper and traveling, enjoying nature and fishing at parks around the country.
When the opportunity came up to buy a lightly used one at a great price, she took it, and she decked the thing out, got all the gear, learned to hook it up to her truck and do everything she needed to do, then went camping at camp grounds around south Louisiana and Mississippi.
She tried it, she loved it, and she knows she can't do it, and this is one of the things which sets her apart, her back is too bad, her knees too bad, the sheer physicality of dealing with hooking it up and unhooking it and leveling it and all it entails, the costs of gas and spending nights at the campgrounds is more than she figured thus after a reasonable trial, she's done.
Yesterday we went and got "Patience," her camper, from the storage place and brought it to her house where she will be slowly getting it cleaned up and cleaned out and ready to put on the market.
Dreams change, or run into realities which won't budge, and when it happens, Ms. G is of the breed which simply changes her dreams to match what she can and can't do; she will now concentrate on the place she bought on family land in the country where she can someday retire with relatives near to look out for her.

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day! This week's image and my poem:
Dad and I sometimes
take a nap
with me snuggled right
in his lap.
But if I wake first I play
beauty shop
and when I get started
I don't stop!

Love the image and poem. It's good Mrs G can let go of one dream and embrace another.
ReplyDeleteIs it a fence? Or is it a wall? Or is it a fence held by a wall? I'll lose sleep trying to figure it all out. Thanx Mimi for adding another problem to my life. God bless.
ReplyDeletecamping is not everyone's cup of tea....atleast she dared to try it out and regret, rather than, not try at all ...
ReplyDeleteKittens! So adorable. Do you know, in England, I hardly ever saw a stray animal. They respect old people too, wish the same was here.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that she has to sell the camper. What a lovely dream she had. I wonder if your granddaughter will do this to her dad or her Granddad one day with makeup. I like the brick fence by the way.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad when your health and or age keeps you from doing what you really want to do but one has to adapt. That camper thing is not for the faint of heart. So much can happen, it is probably a good thing she isn't able to do it.
ReplyDeleteGood decision on the camper. Sometimes you just have to be realistic.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad about the camper. At least she got to try it. Fun poem!
ReplyDeleteThat was quite the story, it reminds me of my Dad when he could no longer go out in his RV. Cute poem and a yummy thankful. Thanks for joining Angel Brian's Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteFas uns posts molt llargs i crec que interessants, però el meu anglès no ajuda a entendre-ho tot, per això et demanava un traductor.
ReplyDeleteAferradetes!
Adaptability is a valuable skill set. Well done to your friend.
ReplyDeleteYep ~ life has a way to cause us to adapt ~ not always fun ~ love poem with the little girl and her Dad ~ hugs,
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days ~
an artist reflects
Once upon a time long long ago, my husband and I dreamed of traveling across the country in an RV. But now his vision isn't good enough to do that and I wouldn't even dream of driving one of those around:)
ReplyDeleteHow I love home grown tomatoes. I hope to get a few off my potted plant on the deck.
Cute poem!
ReplyDeleteIt is good that Ms. G knows her limitations. Cute poem. XO
ReplyDeleteLoved your "This day in history" section! Speaking of Julius Caesar, did you ever watch the series "Rome?" Lady Jane Grey is mentioned in another T13 post. Thought of you last week as we drove through Louisiana.
ReplyDeleteShame about the camper, but a fab photo and a great poem! - it's Chris, by the way.
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame she had to give up camping. I'm going to keep at it for as long as I can!
ReplyDeleteCute picture and poem.
Even though it did not work out for her, I'm glad she got to try it.
ReplyDeleteI shared the same dream- but by the time came to actually do it- I had to realistically back out- as I could never afford the insurance the gas and the repairs on an RV. It was a nice dream though.
ReplyDeletewisdom that takes some of us longer than others to acquire
ReplyDeletegood Six
Adorable poem!! I wonder how Dad will feel about his "makeup" when he wakes up!
