Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.
While Elephant's Child takes a blog break, River is providing the prompts on her blog.
Here are this week's words:
1.gallivanting
2.curious
3.forest
4.bacon
and this picture borrowed from ArcticFox
Charlotte (MotherOwl) has selected Saint Patrick's Green as the colour of the month.
She'd always been CURIOUS about the house behind the gate.
It was at the end of a path through the FOREST, and she only knew it was there because she loved to roam beneath the trees and dream. This time of year, when spring was turning everything every shade from olive to emerald to St. Patrick's Green she would slip out there as often as she could. She felt more at home under the tree canopy than anywhere else.
The gate of the old place was rusted shut, so she knew no one went there any longer, but through the brush and overgrowth she could see a house was still there, and not a wooden one which would slowly sink back into the land like the old shed did, but a proper masonry house.
Every time she thought of asking Aunt Carol about it, she knew the kind of answer she would get. "Child, I can't go GALAVANTING all over looking into the history of old houses used to be around here. It's enough work to keep this house and bring home the BACON for the two of us."
Still, she knew, someday, she'd find a way to learn about the house, to go in it. She felt drawn to it somehow, and knew it would not let her go, so she wouldn't let it go, either.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
You sure are a badass! Good luck with writing. I have not written anything yet either.
ReplyDeleteI always find your "Today Is".... section. I was particularly struck by Hypatia of Alexandria. What a tragic reason to die. But a melancholy satisfaction that she has not been forgotten, which is more than you can say about most people who lived in 415. AD. I looked her up and she was a philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician. You bet those who put her to death were unthinking idiots.
ReplyDeleteWe are always amazed and impressed by the volume and quality of all that you handle every day!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday
